Liverpool Set Sights On QPR Hot-Shot Charlie Austin by The Newshound November 29th, 2014 Charlie Austin QPR Loftus Road striker on Anfield radar Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly keen on QPR striker Charlie Austin according to the Daily Mail. Higuain Liverpool: Anfield side chase Argentine The 25 year old forward has been offered a lucrative new deal by his Loftus Road employers but as yet has not put pen to paper on a £60k a week contract and this has alerted Liverpool and Tottenham. The former Swindon Town man racked up 20 goals in his debut season in west London, helping QPR to promotion from the Championship, and has shown this term that he is more than capable of making an impact in the Premier League. Austin has scored six goals in 11 starts for Harry Redknappâs struggling side and could be tempted by a move to Anfield. Rodgers has seen summer signings Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli manage just one Premier League goal between them this term and presumably has the financial backing to make a good offer for Austin, who cost QPR £4m in August 2013.
Austin won't leave in January, and Rogers won't be there at the end of the season....not too worried about this story.
If Austin keeps on scoring, there is no way we will hold on to him. He could be gone in January, but hopefully he'll stay for the season.
I'd be desperately sad if this is true - it's taken us years to find a striker who is potentially on a par with our finest - and I loathe Rodgers and his massive ego. Sadly we all know that players don't have the connection to the club that we fans do so we can't expect them to stay if a 'big' club comes calling. That said I think Charlie, has a fantastic attitude and is a genuinely good egg in a world where petulant, spoilt and disconnected from society is the norm. It's been an absolute pleasure to have him representing our club, long may it last.
Well said. The biggest reason for him to stay with a club like ours is that however much money the big clubs chuck at him, he will end up playing a few minutes here and there and will eventually be farmed out to lower league clubs. Charlie strikes me as level-headed and wants to play week in week out. The same could be said of Lambert I suppose but he is older and therefore knew that such a chance might not come up again. Also isn't he a Liverpool fan?
If we go down he will go.....but the guy is one of the most level headed players we have had....and he knows that he isn't the most gifted of players, but he is a guy with real commitment, dedication, passion and poaching ability. Those are traits that do not come from playing 15 minutes here, 10 minutes there and a meaningless league cup match. He has to play every match he can...I cannot see him becoming a Remy....he will leave us for a resurgent Southampton, or Newcastle or Spurs...but not to Chelsea, City, Aresenal
Absolutely no way we would let him leave in January. 100% certain on that. We would then be in a position where we need to buy 2 quality strikers and getting 1 in Jan will be near on impossible. Going rate for an English striker in his early 20's is anywhere between £20-£40m (Andy Caroll?!)
10 million wouldn't even buy you a decent championship striker these days and Lamberts in his 30's now so declining as a player Need to rapidly adjust our expectations
I'd take him over Andy Carroll any day, he would be £15-20 million on current form as a realistic price. If Liverpool are really desperate it could be nearer £30 million in January but we'd need Defoe plus another quality striker to make up for him. I'd rather we got Defoe and Charlie together, that could be a lethal partnership...
He still has 18 months on his contract, so there is no reason to panic (yet) about the January window (taking the money whilst we can and not letting him leave on a Bosman for FA). BUT ..... Does he have a minimum release clause?
Unfortunately, I can see it happening lads and lassies. It wouldn't be the first time we have been a feeder club for the big teams. I think if a brick layer from Poole (?) gets an offer to sign for Liverpool, it would be hard to turn down. I am not sure he would be a long-term bench warmer at Anfield either and his chance of staying in the top flight would be substantially better than staying with us. One swallow doesn't make a summer and QPR can't continue to rely on one player to keep us on a level keel for the long-term in the EPL. I certainly hope he stays though.......
Totally baseless speculation. I really don't think Charlie will be going anywhere this season. Anyway, given both Liverpool's and Charlie's history he's bound to fail his medical anyhow.
The money grabbing in this league is ridiculous. I hope Charlie stays. Otherwise, it'll be the late-80's/early-90's all over again where we are the incubator for great talent for the big money teams to poach, and we'll struggle to stay up. We need a great, modern stadium and in a hurry!
This speculation is bound to happen when a player from a lower placed prem team is scoring regularly. Same speculation has been surrounding Berahino in the last few weeks. We're fortunate that we have a player that bigger clubs are interested in. Means they are doing the biz!
Can only see Liverpool would want him as back up / competition for Lambert. Rodgers needs to find a new Suarez and keep away from our overweight, slow, brickie top scorer.
He hardly shat on them. They needed the money and we were offering it to them, if you know the club is prepared to sell you that can change your mind about loyalty. If he knows we want him that might be a different story, I certainly don't think he would leave in January. Although judging by how much of a bridezilla his missus is on Twitter, I think he may need a bigger pay rise than we can offer to pay for the wedding she's got planned! Poor sod.
