Mankiller: Wisdon is out on loan, we sold Kelly and Flanno is about somewhere. Plus he's in on loan so we're talking about just wages really, Wisdom and Kelly going elsewhere pretty much covers this since I didn't count either of those in the above calculations. Lovren: keep Agger Moreno: No arguments, he was needed so take him out of my above equation Can: hardly played and we have the numbers there. Could have been one of the big signings Markovic: Suso is just as good on performances shown so far Lallana: Must have been a cheaper option somewhere! Balotelli: Do I need to say anything other than this SHOULD have been one of the two big signings I'm talking about. So in short, it leaves us a "Lallana" short. Quarter of a squad...?
Valdes was expected to move from Barca and Reina was going to join them. Valedes then changed his mind and Reina's move collapsed. And you didn't watch Reina last season - he was awful and would have been replaced by the young lad at Napoli if he weren't injured.
That's true, but after watching the horror that was Simon Mignolet last year and the lack of a decent back up, surely the smart thing would have been to bring Pep back into the fold. Instead Rodgers with his big ego decided to get rid of Reina for a pittance. So are you saying you believe Mignolet is the better choice between him and Pep? Especially with Rodger's football philosophy
It looks like he had to trim our wage bill. A term you probably wont be familiar with The pittance came as thats all we could get for him which also tells a story as well I think
I agree he had to trim his wage bill last year. This year, you've splashed more than enough cash on transfers and wages to give me that argument again. And again, who would you prefer in goal, Reina or Ming?
Mignolet Why have people forgotten Reina just picking up the ball and throwing it in our net for his last 6 months?
Reina wasn't going to join them at all it was all paper talk. How on earth could a contracted player talk to and agree to join another club while still playing regularly for his club - in secret? That would be tapping up. ''Last month, Valdes made the shock announcement that he would not sign a new contract with Barca after his existing deal expires in 2014, with the 31-year-old saying he wanted a new challenge. Reina was among those caught unawares by the decision, and told MoviStar: "I was surprised because Victor is with the best team in the world. When I sign a contract I fulfil it and I have signed with Liverpool until 2016," he said.'' - Telegraph Feb 2013 June 2013 we sign Mignolet. So did Reina go to Spain between Feb and June and talk to Barcelona? I don't think so. No I didn't watch Reina at Napoli I just looked at his numbers, the fact they finished 3rd with 3rd lowest GA and that Rafa wanted him on a permanent deal.
"A few months ago Pepe was in talks with Barcelona," Reina's father Miguel told Spanish pulication Marca "They had an agreement and he was all set to go but then Victor Valdes didn't leave and the deal fell through." November 2013 http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...agreed-Barcelona-deal-before-Napoli-loan-move
Why didn't Rafa splash the massive 3m on him to bring him to Napoli then? Obviously wasn't that desperate to land him.
The man was still contracted to this club and openly flirted with Barcelona. Reina had 1 foot out of the door when we signed Migs. Did you expect the club to hold off their plans and plan around Reina? I liked Reina and I wanted him to stay - not because of his GK ability because he was regressing rapidly but because he could play with his feet in our style and he commanded respect from his defence. But after his behaviour that summer, I don't care anymore. And he simply was not worth the big wages we were forking out on him - similar to the Johnson scenario (Reina's nowhere near as bad though). And I did watch a lot of Napoli's games - they finished 3rd despite finishing 2nd the previous season and spending a lot more on the team. Reina made a lot of mistakes that season and he was going to be replaced by the young keeper on their books until he got injured.
There was a point in the game yesterday when Migs made a bollocks of an easy kick (1 of about 50 probably). The camera coincidentally cut to the bench just at that moment, to show Lovren turn to Jones and give him a knowing nod. Jones nodded back and then they both started laughing. I may have read that wrong, but it seems to me that these two players at least have lost confidence in Migs and are actively taking the piss out of him!
Just shows how badly Rodgers has handled the Reina affair. One quality keeper gone for nothing, and one bought in for much more - who is much worse! Migs is another Kirkland, although not as good.
Migs was good enough to get us into the top 4. Problem is, he's not good enough to get us beyond, and the same applies to other players in the squad as well.

Six goal scorers, who would have thought that a coincidence like that would happen (all being the best in their position)
