Ps note how we can take the piss out of our christian god but draw a cartoon of a certain other mythical character and be prepared to die
Non-iron managers are definately the best, I hate trying to get the wrinkles out of the other ones, like Pellegrini.
It never even occurred to me to think of my commitment being tested- I'm LFC for life, regardless of how well we're doing. I've also never considered how I would feel if they moved, but I suppose the answer is the same- it's in your blood from an early age. Sorry, but I can't go along with this "city and club are different facets of the same thing" argument- that's a bit of an insult to our BS brethren (both of them). The seemingly universally accepted idea that "scousers" are Reds and vice versa, is one that understandably pisses of our poor neighbours. Being born in the city might seem an obvious factor to those of us who were, but all successful clubs end up with more fans worldwide than they could ever glean from their catchment area. Whatever makes us choose when we are young is down to a variety of influences, but once it's imprinted you're stuck with it- if you're a true fan. I always have the same degree of respect for the genuine fans of any other club, even if they're our fierce rivals. As for those who are only interested because it's fashionable - well, fashions change, so they'll move on to tiddlywinks or whatever eventually.
I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say there, saint. I love the city of Liverpool and its inhabitants, Red blue or not arsed. I also love the club in very much the same way. They're in my heart. The city is special and so is the club. I wasn't denigrating Everton and I think Tobes knew that
I don't think I need to say I'll support them until I die. I'm just asking people to remember why they love the club as well
I would if I knew where he was hiding. You've got that slightly wrong mate. What Billy said was ''the club and the city are inextricably linked'' which is completely different to what you're suggesting he said - if you're from the city you support Liverpool - that's not his thinking at all.
This I genuinely don't believe in the "wherever your born/where you live is the club you should support" argument. Doesn't make me anymore passionate being born here than the lads who travel from Norway or Timbuktu...probably the opposite in a way. Imagine having the journey home to Norway after watching this ****e, I'm home in 20 mins I respect those boys 100%. What I was trying to say was that for me personally the fortunes of the club have a massive influence on the people. I grew up in the 80's while the city was a mess, yet the two football clubs were a source of great pride in a sea of grimness. I just think if either club moved out then one of the greatest parts of the fabric of Liverpool would disappear.
I support Liverpool because everyone has to. It says so in the scriptures. Anyone who does not is going to burn in hell. United are called the Red Devils for a reason, they are Satans team.
But jepus, what are Everton fans then? Are they like.... Secret reds fans who just can't admit it? Like tobes and pj?
Great thread. Started off following Liverpool because of barnsey in his pomp. No connection with the city, altho I love it when I come to a game, how we desperately need a bigger stadium, but that's another topic. Have took some stick over the years for my loyalty to LFC. Last year was so close. Just bought Suarez autobiography
They were drawing names out of a hat and I pulled out Liverpool... Just kidding Easy one for me, whilst I was not born in Liverpool and technically neither was my dad (born in Glasgow to a Scouse mother and lived there for the first 18months as his dad was in the Navy and that was his assigned port), they moved back to Liverpool and there he spent the next 17 yrs being a LFC fan and obviously instilled that in me and my brother. My dad's sister still lives on Merseyside and his Step dad lives in Liverpool. I myself spent 3yrs in Liverpool at Uni. Still have strong connections even without the Club. Plus I never supported any other club, not even with a passing thought, wouldn't know how to change now.
