"Fell over" my arse... He f**ing dived. I don't like Nolan but that was unbelievable from Barkley. Worse thanFletchers and he got a free kick for it ffs!!!
It's sad when it's an Englishman doing something like this, it was always a foreign thing to do up until the last few years. Part of me wants to blame Wenger but I can't put my finger on why to be honest, possibly because he's a ****ing tuss who complains every time a game gets physical and Arsenal bottle it. Every team has their divers (Young & Larsson in our cases), it needs cut out straight away, with retrospective bans.
Its a sad reflection on the game, but to balance it out, the really violent behavior we saw from the likes of Leeds in the 60's seems to have thankfully declined. Diving is cheating, but most of the players that do it are caught out eventually, remember how it came back to bite David Ginola when in one game he was sent off for being flattened by an Arsenal defender, it was a real champagne moment. Bloody good player tho.
I must admit i heard Martinez talking about it first and thought maybe he was doing the right thing to protect his player.......................then i saw the incident, holy crap that is just bonkers to defend that!!!
Spot on - I thought the same until I saw the number of replay angles. No contact on him whatsoever - he most certainly did not "Fall over" and using injuries as an excuse is a joke. He should say "I'll have a chat with him as it's something I don't want happening - he obviously expected the contact... etc..." but to say he "fell over" is disgraceful! Got little time for people who advocate it. Agree totally Terry - we've both got our divers - Young (and Janusaj as well) for you lot are both terrible - Larsson also for us - but we don't defend them. I think an immediate retrospective ban for any comprehensive evidence (such as the video at the top) - 3 matches if it's for a penalty and 1 match anywhere else on the field. Would certainly stop it from happening
I'd add Januzaj for you lot and possibly Gomez for us - got to expect a little foul play though, he's a Jordi after all
I think Januzaj's can be put down to naivety, he's young and should hopefully learn that there's no place for diving around on the pitch. Young looks a lost cause, proper serial offender and when the time comes where we actually need a penalty and he gets hacked down, the ref will just tell him to get up! Bans are the only way to get this out of the game.
Martinez is starting to get on my tits with his blameless rhetoric. Not too different from many other managers tho.
Moses of Stoke beats Robben now, he must practice in training !, it is any touch at all now and they go straight down, once they 'buy' the ref they continue. The one thing that could be changed is the jumping in the air for a loose ball, the injuries that causes is preventable, the nearest player only, should be able to go for the ball in the future, the problem will be can the goalkeeper go for the ball ?.
Diving Wont stop until there is a deterrent. Whilst we have the FA who do sweet FA in charge we might as well get used to it. Bookings waste of time. An independent panel should review these farcical CHEATING dives and have the power to ban the F*ckers for a complete season. With the clubs paying their wages let's see how many managers have a word with their players then. I lost respect for Barclay when he fell over a blade of grass at the SoL a few weeks back but that is even worse.
Agree with your sentiments but the difference in age between Barkley and Januzaj is negligible. This is down to the individuals, the management or the club. If none of them do **** all about it then football is lost
I agree, Age is no excuse, Clubs should be teaching their youngsters that cheating is unacceptable, but even still, these players don't have severe learning disabilities, they know the difference between right and wrong and do it anyway while the clubs stand by them as they do it. Very sad state of affairs.
Judging players by what they say during interviews i would say that quite a few of them most certainly do have learning difficulties.
Some of them aren't the sharpest but they know the differance between right and wrong. Fact is football has become a cesspit of unethical ****ers.
Until they have someone reviewing each game for foul play that is independant of the referee with the power to hand out match bans (whatever they think is acceptable, like the idea of a 5 game ban personally as it is clearly cheating) then it will continue and it will get worse. No one with any power seems to see it as an issue though.
Of course mate, my point was to compare Januzaj and Young, rather than Januzaj and Barkley. I'd say you could put Barkley's down to naivety as well. One thing Moyes was good at, at Everton especially was cutting out diving and disciplining his players for it, let's hope Martinez can show similar class. I don't know about you but the embarrassment for me getting dragged through the mud by every media outlet, would be enough to deter me from doing it more than once!
There's a grey area, where a player can jump out of the way to avoid collision when a reckless challenge comes in. That's the only logical reason I can see for not implementing bans on divers.
He defended Mcmanamans "tackle" on Haidara. I understand managers wanting to back their players but Martinez is a ****. That dive was pathetic
