QPR Hoping That Chelsea Will Bail Harry Out
    Jack Bamfield November 25, 2014 0

With the January transfer window fast approaching, QPR Manager Harry Redknapp knows he must improve his squad again to avoid facing his second relegation from the Premier League with the West London club.

They currently sit at the bottom of the league table and have conceded the most goals with 23 so far in this campaign. According to Dean Jones of The Mirror, QPR will look to rectify this problem in January with the loan capture of Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas, who is currently on loan at FC Köln in Germany.

Their defence has been a real issue for them, and Redknapp has found himself frequently changing personnel. Summer signing Steven Caulker has been ever-present at the back and has performed capably, particularly in QPR’s two wins against Sunderland and Aston Villa. However, there has been some inconsistency with his defensive partner, and no clear starter has emerged.

Rio Ferdinand was brought into the club on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer by Redknapp, who had previously introduced him to live in the Premier League at West Ham.

However, he received a 3-game ban by the FA in late October following comments he made on Twitter, and is still yet to return to the first team. At 36, Ferdinand knows his age will work against him. His replacement in the QPR first team, Richard Dunne, is 35 himself, but has performed well, particularly in the Hoops’ 2-1 loss to Chelsea in early November.

Kalas meanwhile has yet to feature for the Bundesliga outfit since joining on a season-long loan in July. The young Czech defender impressed during his two seasons on loan at Eredivisie club Vitesse, but since then has been starved of first-team football. Despite featuring in Chelsea’s landmark 2-0 win over Liverpool in April, Kalas likened his role with the Blues to that of a training ground cone.

Now at Köln, he is believed to be disillusioned with his lack of first-team football and is keen to play in any capacity.

Jones reports that Chelsea would consider the possibility of recalling Kalas from his loan spell in the Bundesliga to provide him with Premier League experience at QPR. His addition would certainly provide Redknapp a youthful defensive option with some versatility, as he is able to perform a role at right-back.

Expect this to be a busy transfer window for Redknapp and QPR

Anyone who thinks Caulker has been more consistent than Dunne has clearly not seen us play and should be ignored.

Dunne is a far better player than Caulker, but then he is far more experienced.

I remember Kalas having a brilliant game for Chelsea away at Liverpool in their infamous 2-0 win last season.

    I'd take him

Don't know enough about Kalas, so not sure if he would be a good pairing for Caulker.

Would prefer Dunne or Ned to regularly partner Caulker. I think we also have a good backup in Col Donaldson who would probably jump at the chance and also not forgetting capt'n Hill, who like Dunne will always give 110% for the club.

The last Scum reject we took on was a disaster, steer well clear IMO.

If he can't get into a Cologne team that loses at home to Hertha Berlin (who's top player is Salomon Kalou, and even he was a sub) I have my doubts.

Unless Donaldson has improved vastly since last seasons away game at Barnsley I would not play him.
