Bought a phone case for my new phone a month ago. But some how I've ended being signed up to Amazon Prime. Which I had no clue I had until I checked my bank account and had been charged £79. I've spoked to them on 'live chat' and got a refund. But I still think this is really sneaky and underhand.
There's an option to opt in to a free trial, you didn't check what shipping option you had selected before finalising. They make it pretty clear, you just didn't read things properly. Good of them to give you your money back though.
Not many con-men offer you refunds if you don't like it. I decided to keep it after I had a free trial - saved me a tonne on postage this year, and the Instant videos not too bad either.
I've checked my emails and have no confirmation of signing up to it. I didn't read it word for word, but I don't remember anything about Amazon Prime. Having checked it seems to happened to a a lot of people. It probably is useful for some people. But I very rarely use Amazon.
I almost fell victim to this a few days ago. Needed something quick in October, so agreed to the 30 day free trial. Got my stuff within 24 hours of ordering, made a mental note to cancel Prime...and then forgot. Up until about a day before the end of the free trial when out of nowhere I remembered and cancelled just a few hours before I was due to be charged the £79. Sneaky yes - I'm quite certain they intentionally do not remind you when your trial period is due to expire. But it would really have been my own fault for not keeping track of things.
They don't remind you, but you can cancel it the day after you agreed to a Free Trial*. Use it to get things post-free. [Edit: *You still get the 30-day trial, but cos you've cancelled, they don't take the £79.]
It is the default shipping option when you process your order. It says free delivery and I think a lot of people get caught out because they are expecting free delivery. But you need to check a lower radio button to just get that and not Prime. A bit sneaky. If you use Amazon a lot though, Prime is actually good value. You get your own delivery drone. Or you might, one day.
Had this issue about 7 monthe ago While on my hols in florida i had a pair of fancy shoes delivered for the wife using prime to get them there quick to the hotel i have a US account I didnt realize and woke up middle of the night with a thought Went on there site and cancelled the prime with a hour to go before taking money How weird is that "yorkshire man/ keeps eye on brass / peel a orange in pocket/ nowt gets by us eh!"
Conning twats are giving refunds these days, are they? That's nice of them. Can we have a word with Blackburn about that 160k we shelled out for David Mail?
David Mail: the man who disliked football. His wife used to sometimes travel with Travel Club in the early 1990s to away games (as did Lee Warrenâs mam â whom the coach would pick up near Leedsâ. Didnât Mail retire to become a HGV driver? I remember speaking to Leigh Palin about him and he said, before joining, amongst fellow players, Mail had a rep as being one of the better centre backs in the Second Division.
This is standard practice these days. Companies offer a free trial period after which it is assumed you accept the terms unless you cancel. Consumer Law should be changed so that these on-line firms have to seek separate confirmation from you at the end of the free trial (eg an email to you with a link to their web-site and then a click on a 'confirm' button).
