The Friday night debate: immigration, where do you stand?

Discussion in 'Sunderland' started by Shameless, Nov 21, 2014.

?

Where are you on the spectrum?

  1. Send home all non-whites and Muslims home now

  2. Stop new in-migration and repatriate all Muslims

  3. Stop all further immigration and asylum seekers entering the country

  4. Only professionals may enter the country, all else is strictly controlled

  5. Control immgration to allow genuine economic migrants the right to work

  6. We benefit hugely from formal and informal in-migration, more than being disadvantaged by it

"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost....

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. .....

Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!

In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.

Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!

Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness."

    Some people just get it.

You must be referring to the old crumblies like me who contributed to the tax system for a working life of 50 years and will receive on average less than 10% of it back in pension.

The universal benefits system is the root of all that ails your/our country but then all the benefits paid out are received back eventually by the government via indirect taxation. There are just too many people willing to stay on benefit which is understandable when the wages offered are no incentive for them to work.

The only one group that should be closely looked at are the global wealth makers so beloved of the capitalistic system.

these people sitting on their backsides should not have a say in anything, as non contributors i dont find their views useful as they are part of the problem ,vast numbers are capable of doing something even if its a community thing,if not get shot with the other leeches from outside.

I dont mind people who come into our country to better themselves! However these people should have jobs lined up for them before they enter! If they lose their job they should have a set time to gain a new one, if not they should be sent home. Any benefits should be minimal up until they are sent home! I dont think immigrants should get the same benefits as those born in this country! Especially over a prolonged period of time! I also think that all illegal immigrants should be shot if they dont volutarily go home! I think there is little excuse to find yourself in another country when you shouldnt even be there! There needs to be an extreme deterrent to stop utter toerags from taking advantage of countries like ourselves! Not all illegal immigrants are toe rags, but they still shouldnt be sneaking into another country! If I was working in another country I wouldnt expect to be treated equally! If I was found illegally in another country I would expect to get the **** kicked out of me then dump in the sea with just a rubber ring to keep me afloat! I just think its the way it should be, wherever you come from and whichever country you find yourself in!

Transnational Corporations rule the planet <ok>

Teams of people driven by wealth creation and profit, not democratic elected officials, single party despots, or national leaders of any kind ...for the simple reason that they are driven by the same motive by the same people.

Is this the best way to govern the planet?

I'm married to a Pole and have a Polish son. I'm moving back to the UK with my family in January. I'm 100% for controlling Immigration. We should move out of the EU and benefits should only be given upto the maximum amount that the person would be able to claim in their home country.

By the way...before moving to Poland I paid tax in the UK for 21 years and now on my return after 5 years away I'm refused any sort of benefit for 3 months because i've been out of the country for more then 12 months. Expats (i was working for a UK company overseas, a UK company who pay full taxes to the UK government) who are returning should be treat better.

Our benefits system needs a drastic overhaul, a credit system should be devised ,then we would see a drop in net immigration.

Believe it or not they've just done that. Now people can still fiddle the system while the genuine claimants have been punished. It needs another overhaul already.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30224637

Net migration to the UK rose to 260,000 in the year to June - an increase of 78,000 on the previous year.

The figure is calculated by taking away the number of people leaving the country from the number coming in.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said he hoped to get net migration below 100,000 before the election in 2015.

But according to the data, 583,000 people immigrated to the UK in the last year - an increase of 45,000 from the EU and 30,000 from outside.

Net migration is now 16,000 higher than it was when the coalition government was formed in 2010.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has accused the prime minister of "spectacularly" breaking the "promise he made to the British people".

Chart showing migration into and out of the UK
Note: 2014 shows provisional rolling quarterly estimates
BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith said the figures were "deeply, deeply significant" and "deeply awkward for David Cameron".

EU citizens are free to come to the UK and compete for jobs without being subject to any immigration controls.

Those from outside the EU face a much tighter application regime if they wish to enter the country.

Mr Cameron is expected to outline how he plans to reduce European immigration in a major speech in the coming days.

It follows a recent admission from Home Secretary Theresa May that it is "unlikely" the government will meet its annual migration target before the election.

    'No surprise'
Some 228,000 EU citizens came to the UK in the year to June 2014, the Office for National Statistics said, while the number of people immigrating from outside the EU rose to 272,000.

The figures include 32,000 Romanians and Bulgarians - an increase of 18,000 on the previous year.

Jesus, He hasn't done anything about the one area we can control. Non Eu Migrants. What a f**ing embarrassing Government this is <doh>

A case in point from over here; an English schoolteacher over here married to a Kiwi has decided to return to UK after about five years away, to be accepted back she and hubby must deposit 18k pounds into English bank as proof they are self sufficient for the first two years of their return. Admittedly neither have a job lined up at the moment but have sufficient quals and background to obtain employment quickly. Good hard working folks who will not be drain on any benefits system.

For political reasons the UK/NZ standing arrangement of direct immigration and medical/benefit support rules were scrapped some time ago as they were probably affected by the EU rules. So much for mother country.
