Let’s be realistic, it's won't be possible for us to sign Modric or Bale, even if we had the money, the new European FFP rules will definitely limit us to the amount of money we can spend in a given year. By most calculations I have seen in accordance with the FFP rules, United could net spend somewhere in the region of 50 million pounds per year if our revenue and expenditure remain at current level. Also, Spurs would be silly to sell for anything less than 30 million and I’m sure if these players were available both City and Chelsea would have a look in as well.

With that being said, United have to continue with its policy of purchasing unproven players with bags of potential, like Rafael, Nani, Hernandez, Anderson, Fabio, Smalling, etc... In terms of area that needs addressing, we definitely need a new DM and an LM who is adaptable to play on the right wing, also the GK position will need to be looked at. For a possible DM, the likes of Schweinsteiger or Sneijder, and also for the AM position. Both of them can play in both of those positions.

Very hard to know who we should and could afford to sign but I do agree with the positions you've identified as being the key areas where improvements could be made. Schweinsteiger just signed a new contract so that's probably a non starter. I'm surprised we haven't gone for Defour yet tbh, given SAF's interest in him in the past.

I think Defour is injured otherwise we would have signed him, I think summer move is on cards.

I think Defour is one we're definitely interested in, our interest in him has been confirmed by Defour, his club and Fergie himself. Fergie has also said he's interetested in Alexi Sanchez but Chelsea are sniffing around him too.

Well I am not saying that we should or should not sign these two, however you have probably answered your own question in terms of whether we could. If we are restricted to a net spend of 50million and we only want modric and bale who cost a total of 60million then we could easily meet this by selling one or more players for a total of 10million.

Attacking midfielder with a bit of growth potential. Tarrabt! He has come on leaps and bounds this year and Fergie would be the man to get the best out of him

Sanchez is out of contract in the summer and may be available on the cheap - a nice holding player in the Carrick mould would be good to partner Anderson too - ideally someone like Gourcouff.

Since when was gourcuff a holding midfielder?

And also, why do we need a holding midfielder when we play a 4-4-2 most of the time? Surely the best policy would be to sign another all round cenral midfielder.

Defour may happen, mind, his team mate Witsel is alright too.

I'd love to see us sign Marko Marin, bags of talent, and will probably make it in the german team in future.

Sorry, meant deep-lying playmaker, a position he can play - let him sit back and play the passes while Anderson goes forward (what Carrick does, but better). Either that or sign a box-to-box player/promote Pogba.

I haven't seen pogba play, isn't he a little too young atm?

Sign Iniesta. That'll do the trick.

    Not really box-to-box is he?

Haven't seen Pogba play but heard good things about him and quite frankly promoting any of the academy is a step in the right direction bearing in mind we have had nothing since Gibson and don't look like look signing anyone soon.

I was joking, the chances of signing him are about as high as Loserpool's of winning anything this year.

What about Corry Evans and Tom Cleverly? Any prospect there?

I knew you were joking of course. When I say we've had nothing I mean that no-one has been given a real chance.

Oh we wish, that'd certainly do the trick though :).

Apparently we sent scouts to watch him play a few times. but he threw a massive tantrum in one of his games and blew it.

I would not have Taarabt anywhere near our team. Incredibly talented but he doesn't have the right attitude imo.

I'l put money on Defour coming in during the summer with Hargo retiring. Which helps a little without our midfield woes.

Would also like to see the few rumours come true and us sign Sergio Busquets, but that's a dream.

Of other players inclined to join a top team from their current that may be worth a mention, Hamsik of napoli?
Heard a few decent things on Javier Pastore.
Yann M'Vila is also a deal that could go down well.

Funny thing with Hamsik is that I know how highly rated he is but when I've watched Napoli, I haven't been impressed.

Didn't impress me for slovakia either.
