QPR boss Harry Redknapp: I wish I had ELEVEN players like Charlie Austin HARRY REDKNAPP has labelled Charlie Austin a throwback and says he wishes he had more players like him By Alec Shilton / Published 21st November 2014 Charlie Austin has been in fine form in recent weeks for QPR QPR star Austin is in red-hot form having scored four goals in his last three games including the opener in the 2-2 draw against champions Manchester City last time out. And with the striker hoping to push his way into England manager Roy Hodgson's thought's, Redknapp reckons the former bricklayer is a dream to manage. Rangers boss Redknapp said: "You've got to work hard at it and Charlie's a good lad. "He's a bit of a throwback really, he just gets on with it and every day wants to train. "He's never a problem, never complains and enjoys being a footballer. "I wish they were all like him - very easy to manage, not a minute's problem." Austin, 25, started out playing non-League football for three years while earning a crust as a labourer. And now as one of the Premier League's form strikers, Redknapp reckons the hard graft is paying off. He added: "Some players come in and think they've made it and then you'll get non-League players, you do get the odd one like Charlie. "Years ago there used to be loads that'd come out - Les Ferdinand, Stuart Pearce, Ian Wright and Alan Pardew all played non-League. "There were so many of them in those days, it was just a conveyor belt of players out of non-League. "I think Charlie has improved. He's come from the league below the Southern League. "I think he was at Bournemouth for a while, they were looking at him, didn't take him and then he ends up at Swindon and proves he can score goals. Then he goes up a step again to Burnley. "His target's got to be as near to 20 goals as he can this year and if he does that he's proved he's a Premier League goalscorer."
I don't think this is what he is saying. Some will probably come in do what they need to do and go home. They are not causing problems as such. Others like charlie will just put that extra bit of effort in
Sounds like he's trying to advertise him to other clubs. Matter of time before one of the big teams decide they need someone to get them goals
You can guarantee a bid will come in for him in January, let's hope he sees he's better off playing every week and banging them in for us...
Why would he want to do that??? I think people read waay too much into these kinds of quotes. The way I read it is that he's been asked a direct question about Charlie (which is inevitable right now) , and he's just giving an honest opinion. Plus, he's hardly saying that he's going to be the next Lionel Messi.
Spot on... It drives me crazy when all the armchair psychologists tell us what he really meas as he answers a random question. I genuinely dont think he's intelligent enough to play that game. He jut answers before he thinks, thats all
I think it would be a good time to tie up a new contract to put off speculative bids. Whilst I do not think the top four would do so, it's feasible that a club such as Everton, Newcastle, West Ham, etc might spot potential at £10m. It would be hard to turn down if it was bidded up to £15m+.
