COL, just keeping you up to date with the build up toward the second Test: http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/gaa.../colm-begley-says-international-rules-2482171
Just for Stan as I know he was gutted he couldn't get to see the second test: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/oct/27/australia-ireland-international-rules-test The touring party are having a hard time of it back in the Australian press. Having lost the first test, reports that they went partying for the rest of the weekend and trashed a hotel room in plush Dromoland Castle didn't go down well. After last nights defeat one reporter even went as far as to say they were "a disgrace to the Aboriginal Nation". Speaking of obscure football codes, does anyone have any interest at all in the Rugby League World Cup that started yesterday or is that strictly the preserve of those oop north?
Tends to be the Victorians, South and West Australians into AFL- NSW and QLD are league states. I'd be surprised if any of the (British) expats are into it, although the Irish expats I know out there don't mind it as there's a few Irish players in the league.
It would appear to be the case regarding Queens, Tooting. He must hate the fukking game cos he won't even answer! Aussie and MelbourneR are native Australians though, I think (Not Aborigines, I mean born there.......although they could be "real" natives, who knows?). They don't seem to follow it either. Would I be totally wide of the mark in assuming that its followed by the more, shall we say, "rustic" people of Oz? Is there a snobbery from the Cricket and Rugger boys like there is toward Soccer fans in our part of the World? I always enjoyed watching it. Great game IMO. Niall Quinn was about to join the Swans or Melbourne before the Arsenal signed him up.
I told you I was going to outdo you with a pointless thread Kiwi! The replies from Andy and Uber from last year are very funny. Pity auld Andy hasn't come back and asked for a reprieve. He was a good lad.
FT: Australia 56-46 Ireland Very good game. Aussies won it in the first quarter where they led by around 20 points. Ireland came into the game particularly in the last quarter but it was too little too late. All the AFL players were in the All-Australian team meaning this was the strongest International Rules team they ever fielded - and it showed. Their movement off the ball was superb and their kicking of the round ball looked more natural than its ever looked from an Aussie Rules side. Time to stop talking to myself. My pathetic attempts to introduce the great and good of English man folk to a new form of International football having failed miserably yet again, I'm considering starting to follow Cricket. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
