Naturally they want it abolished/privatised. Usual right wing nastiness.

And the turkeys continue to vote for Christmas.

    In Dublin's fair city,
Where the Girls are so pretty,
    I first set my eyes,
    On sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
    Crying cockles and mussels,
    Alive alive o!

    Alive alive o!
    Alive alive o!
    Crying cockles and mussels,
    Alive alive o!

    She was a fish monger,
And sure it was no wonder,
    For so were her
    Father and Mother before,
And they both wheeled their barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
    Crying cockles and mussels,
    Alive alive o!

    Alive alive o!
    Alive alive o!
    Crying cockles and mussels,
    Alive alive o!

    She died of a fever,
And no one could save her,
    And that was the end
    Of sweet Molly Malone,
But her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
    Crying cockles and mussels,
    Alive alive o!

From your link Swords, so your hometown, Dublin vis-à-vis Swansea? Any nutters shouting at the bus stops?

Fury over Plymouth student article, ‘Swansea: the worst hometown ever’

Swansea residents have reacted with anger over an article which brands the city ‘the worst hometown ever’.

Published this week on Plymouth student website, the article, which is attributed to a student originally from Swansea, attacks both the city and its residents, with little fact to back it up.

“If you like long walks on beach trying to avoid rusted cans of Stella, rainbows in the ocean caused by runoff from the steel works and nutters shouting at you at the bus stop, then Swansea is the place for you,” the article reads.

It continues, lamenting the fact that Townhill has the “some of the most beautiful views in the world” and, instead of utilising the land to maximum benefit, “the council decided to coat the entire hillside in council homes”.

Swords comes 17th in cleanest towns list

Anti litter survey shows Ireland doing as well as European cities

SWORDS has been listed among the top 20 cleanest towns in Ireland in the Irish Business Against Litter Campaign (IBAL).
Of the 42 towns and cities that were monitored across the country for cleanliness levels over the course of 2012, Swords was named as the 17th cleanest town at a ceremony held in Dublin this week.
Kilkenny came in first place and was closely followed by Cavan and Killarney in the annual survey.
The IBAL campaign showed that 80% of towns and cities in the country to be as clean – if not cleaner – than their European counterparts last year. Swords’ place in the top 20 towns meant that the town was “cleaner than the European norm”.
Speaking at the awards ceremony IBAL chairman Dr Tom Cavanagh likened the progress made on litter in Ireland to that of road safety.
“Each January, we hear the welcome news that the numbers killed on our roads have again fallen. In particular, the attitude to drink driving has been transformed in a way that would have seemed unthinkable some years ago.
“There are parallels with the improvements we are now seeing in cleanliness levels. We might have viewed ourselves traditionally as a less than tidy nation, but the results tell a different story,” he said.

Taking the thread back to education, the Ofsted report on certain schools in East London is quite worrying.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-30129645

Why do we allow 'faith' schools (any faith) to be part of our education system?

Well, I could respond with both barrels, but that would risk causing offence to our colleagues of faith.

So, good question Stroller. I'll restrict myself to saying its a crime to stuff young, unformed minds with this gibberish, and the people who do it should be treated as criminals, whether they be Christian (whatever sect), Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist or whatever. I guess they are allowed to do it because they have money, control votes and can play the 'freedom of belief' card, even though they are all dedicated to restricting freedom of thought.

    Because Blair was buying votes.

Everything Blair did was to win votes. Never for the 'greater good'

I have as much contempt for teachers that press their political views on children as you do for those that press religion on the little ****ers, Stan.

Says all you need to know about the sneering middle-class that runs the Labour Party these days. The days when most Labour MPs were those that had come through the trade unions and knew what it was like to do a hard day's work have been replaced by people who wouldn't be seen dead in a Working Men's Club and would rather be having dinners at the Fabian Society or the like...

No argument with that Ubes. Teach comparative religion, political ideologies, philosophy please, try and sell one version as better - f** off.

Haven't noticed many Marxist Sixth Form Colleges or Adam Smith Comps around though - just 'faith' schools.

Bang on, Soops. That Thornberry woman is typical of a number of snooty, well educated, hypocritical left wing snobs who bangs on about equality and tolerance, yet carry their own particular brand of prejudice. It's not that she sneered at what she saw as a certain stereotype - people do this all the time, it's in our nature - it's that she put herself on the side that says we shouldn't do this, but couldn't keep a lid on her own bigotry. Detestable hypocrite.

They don't need a school with a label on it, Stanley. All they need is a class full of kids and a platform.

Faith schools are brainwashing on an organised basis with State backing, Uber.

An odd rogue 'leftie' teacher is hardly the same thing.

(I assume it was lefties you were referring to)

Not particularly, Strolls. I think any teacher that abuses a position of authority over impressionable minds is derserving of contempt.

Indoctrination is a strange thing, though. We rail against it from a third party and yet I suspect we all do a bit ourselves with our kids.

Of course we do. That's why my kids are hugely irritating, asking loads of questions and never shy to give their opinion and have an excellent foundation in musical taste. Can't get the buggers to read enough books though.

Still don't think you can equate individual teachers to whole schools set up to promote an ideology though.

Any attempts at political indoctrination of my kids on my part have failed miserably, sadly. At least that's true of my daughters, I still have hopes for my son.

Speaking of which, Oddball is dishing out free passes to his Working Men's Club - The Manhole - in Brighton this weekend.

Someone told me there's a two pound piece glued to the floor of the Jacks. For what I do not know....
