They still have Flanagan (long term injury) and manquillo (2 year loan ). Athletico won't be too happy if he is shunted down the pecking order. Shame Flanagan got his injury otherwise we wouldn't have this talk regardless of how clyne is playing as Flanagan was going well and is an academy player for them...
Key sentence from Jeremy Wilson's article: They have no financial need to sell any of their squad and have already begun drawing up a list of their own transfer targets for 2015. From Wilson's previous SFC articles, he should already know that Saints will have long had their list drawn up for 2015. It may well be hardened down to who they are zeroing in on for January, but even Nigel Adkins said, way back when, that Saints have their targets drawn up for upto 2 full seasons in advance. There's nothing knee-jerk about Southampton FC.
No, I suppose not, but that wasn't exactly what I was concentrating on, was it. BTW, who's the bloke in the avatar..?
Any idea if this is new info or last summer info? I'm never really sure how current Beefy's info is as he doesn't really say and things can quickly change.
He mentioned it yesterday, but don't know how current that is. The article itself implies this contract is a recent offer, but it too, may be old 'news' they have just discovered.
Yes they say he will be offered so I guess no one really knows what he will do. It may be an offer he is happy to accept once he sees it. As it's the Telegraph they may actually have some first hand knowledge and not just be guessing.
I honestly can't see any of the current players signing new deals untill the summer if they do at all. Yes saints are an exciting team and yes we are performing better than anyone expected. The draw of the big boys is far to strong for any player to turn down. Its not just the money its the fame side of it and plus say if clyne were to sign for Liverpool or United he could play proper **** and still know he would get picked for England. I would love to believe that players are loyal and playing football is all they care about but unfortunately that's not the world we live in.
We've just got to hope Bertrand has a word in their ears about it not being always the best thing to be at a "big" club.
IF we manage somehow to stat in top 4 then schneiderlin and clyne I would hope stay but of we don't get champs football then both will probably go
Clyne's decision to come here instead of ManU shows he is sensible about his career....now depends if his brain tells him it is time to move on or stay here. Critical time in his career. Depressing as it may be, it could be the right time to move on...unless he is offered a short extension.
I will be so pissed off if we sell him to Liverpool. If they come calling we need to tell them to **** off and they're not buying any more of our players.
