This is a nailed-on defeat for us. Cosseted Premier League Fancy Dans going up there to play a team on the up, with 60,000 Sweaties baying for their blood? They won't know what's hit them. Most of 'em are probably too young to remember what it used to be like when we played the Jocks on a regular basis and won't have the first idea of what it means to a Scot when England are the opposition. Some of them probably don't even know where Scotland is.
What is the point of this game? Right after qualifiers, 4 months before next qualifiers and 4 days before prem games start again. Clubs will be hugely pissed off if any of their players get injured. Hope to god Robbo doesn't get picked.
Totally agree Plum. There is no point whatsoever. Woy might 'have a look' at a few different players, but he wont see them under anything like proper game pressure. He does the same things every time. E.g. winning on Saturday easily enough and he puts James Milner on. No disrespect to Milner - guy is quality, but why didn't he choose a a different player - see what they could do? So if the point of this game is that Woy could look at different players, then it is still pointless as he won't play them in proper matches AND he won't see them in a real game situ. Agree re Robbo - let's hope he keeps well away!
Careful... you'll have the 'how dare you criticise England' lot on your back soon.... EDIT: And as if by magic... look at the next post!
Scotland press conference Football Posted at 13:43 Andrew Robertson: "It is quoted as a friendly but neither team will take it as a friendly. It will be a competitive game. I think it will be a very competitive match. "We don't know what England are thinking but we know we are taking it as a competitive game. It is a massive occasion for both teams. "If we win it means I can go back to Hull with a smile on my face and have the bragging rights. If we can beat England as well as Ireland then they'll be a big smile on my face." Scotland press conference Football Posted at 13:41 Gordon Strachan to come but first up in front of the media is left-back Andrew Robertson. The Hull City defender, looking ahead to tomorrow's England game, said: "Adrenaline is still pumping through us all from the win over Ireland and we now have a massive game which was are looking forward to it. "It is about keeping our good record going. Since Gordon came in he has been brilliant and so have all the boys. "When I grew up the Scotland v England game was a thing of the past but we all know the history of it and to be a part of it ... it will be a great occasion to be involved in."
The usual tarts at their pessimistic whinging drivel already I see. You shouldn't have an opinion anyway Polly, those are reserved for professionals only.
Despite England's uninspiring, ploddy ways these days, this game does get the juices flowing a bit. Maybe this could be the game to jolt England out of their slumber? Maybe the Scots will want it more? It's a massive game for both countries with national pride at stake, and I for one hope we can arrange to play Scotland/Ireland/Wales on a regular basis. An international for fans to get their teeth into, at last! I just hope we show the required guts in this, something I haven't seen in England for a long, long time. Scotland is the time to bare our teeth again. I hope they rise to it, because Scotland will.
Personally - I never WANT England to lose, but it might not be a bad thing if they did. A reality check maybe? Unbeaten in qualifiers against very mediocre opposition, could lead to greater complacency. A loss against the Scots might not be a bad thing in the long run??
There isn't a team less in need of a reality check than England. Half the country hates England now. We need a good result in every game as far as I'm concerned, as much to try and win back some of the public as anything else.
I think that I'd prefer England to lose, but actually have a go and give a damn, than this incessant dull boring football we see. On Saturday, I think there was one or two good pieces of interplay - one leading to Welbeck's 2nd. Fans would flock to see England if there was some passion and creativity. You wouldn't think that these are the same players that play in the one of the best leagues in the world every Saturday / Sunday. Maybe if England entertained, they could fill Wembley - like the NFL did the week before!
If City were playing ****e and mediocre football, would you want us to lose? How the frig would that help? Yes it means more to the jocks, it has to, they've been in our shadow (as poor as we've been, they've been worse) but any English players know how important this is. I hope to see a bit of passion again. A demonstration of why these fookers get to pull the 3 lions on. Hope we lose? No, I can't do that.
I think it's said so regularly that England are boring, ****, lack passion etc that it's just become accepted as true. But I don't know how anyone watching that Slovenia game could think it was boring, unless they weren't really paying attention and just went with a pre-conceived opinion. Judging by comments on here only minutes into every England game, I'm pretty sure that's it. If people talked about City the way they do about England they'd be laughed off as 'poodles' and rightly so. For once I think Happy actually has a point.
