Moyes - typical BS from a new manager / player. If everything a new signing was true then there would be at least ten "massive clubs" in every league, and every division would be the best in the world. Regardless of the relative strengths of the league, Moyes' comments are purely to get himself a bit of cred with new fans, possibly trying to have a pop at the English media for portraying him as a failure. Evans - hoist by his own stupidity. Looks like the woman may well have been willing and tried to entrap him, but given how pissed she was he should have just kept it in his pants. Right now it's a tough situation for him, as he can't apologise without harming his claim he was wrongly convicted. Personally I think he should be allowed to play - I don't agree that footballers should be role models, parents should be role models to their kids, and should hold up teachers, police officers and public servants as role models, rather than bitching about them at every opportunity. Problem is that football is so high profile I doubt any reasonable sized club will allow him to play. FIFA - Top European federations won't leave as that implies leaving UEFA as well, so leaving the CL, EL etc. Tbh I think Garcia needs to publish his full report, and rely on a defence of exposing the undoubted criminality that has taken place.
See today the president of the German Federation saying that EUFA may well leave FIFA if they don't publish Garcias" report in full. That would stir the pot.
Sounds like a bluff to me. Like the "European Super League" thing the top clubs were pushing for a few years back in order to get a bit more CL cash. That said, the Super League thing threat worked, so we may see some action from FIFA yet.
Ah yes the imaginary united super league Where Lord Oberon would preside over the fairies. good luck lord nonce
Moyes should never have been sacked, but allowed good time to put together a new post Fergie dynasty! Agree on Chad Evans-he's served his punishment and should be allowed to get on with his life! High profile status doesn't change his rights! Until Blatter is arrested and charged with fraud, FIFA will remain a joke! There should be a campaign among European countries to opt out of membership!
He hasn't though, he's done his custodial sentence but is out on license and so can be put back in jail if he breaks the law [for any other reason] for the next 2.5years. Interesting that you say he should be able to get on with his life yet his family and fiancée named the girl he raped and she's had to change her name and move twice so is completely unable to get on with her life. Agree with you on FIFA.
Ched Evans never asked to be a role model, any parent that promotes any celebrity a role model no matter what form it is in, is guiding their offspring down a dark tunnel. As has been said the role model should come from within the family wether from parent or other sibling. What happened to the victim was wrong, but the law states that when you have paid your debt then you should be freed. What Evans' supporters did was also wrong and also should be punishable.
Who does ask to be a role model? Parents have no say in who their children freely choose as role models. Most, if not all, parents would like their children to have role models to aspire to, the first usually being their own father or closest male relative/s who have a responsibility to show their offspring what a man should be and act like. The reality of the situation is that children have their idols/role models pictures hung on their bedroom walls and nowadays are following them on twitter - and I'm guessing Evans is one of those through no choice of his own but whether he likes it or not and we like it or not, he is a role model to some youngsters out there. He's 'paid his debt' in 2.5 years time, maybe then there'll be a club who will want him.
I think its a moral dilemma really but as you say he has paid his debt to society and under current legislation everybody has a right to attempt rehabilitation. Could have helped himself more by genuinely showing some remorse for his crime but it seems that footballers are not the sharpest tools in the box.
