Dan Butler on for Nicky Shorey, and Ryan Taylor on for Nick Awford. Going three at the back, with wingbacks ?
Hi Woopert/Majr I am only 'watching' this via this thread so very difficult to comment. Even so the early start gives me a chance to stay up for the game (12.15am here) rather than wake up to the score as per normal. Given the score line however I may retreat to bed and confront the final score in the morning. My sole Pompey references are this forum and the News. It sounds to me as if the difficulty in obtaining quality in mid field is trying to be resolved by quantity. Is the midfield problem failure to win 50-50 balls or failure to retain possession or both? Most weeks we hear of bad defensive errors but theses are bound to come if the mid field is failing. Someone in the back 5 will inevitably make the final mistake
One of the major problems is the lack of communication. When Rocha played he talked to the kids all the time, Chorley isn't fit to be captain in my opinion.
I'd say the midfield failing to win 50/50's and keep hold of the ball was the problem in the first half, though we're a bit better this half. Though the defence has been bad on its own merit and the penalty early on didn't help..
According to BBC Sports stats, we currently have had 56% possession. We have certainly made full use of it
We're still looking toothless but that isn't exactly to be surprising given Plymouth have one of the strongest defences in the league and our attack is inconsistent at best.
We'd look toothless against the worst defence in the league. I am predicting it now, a comfortably 2-0 win for Aldershot in the FA Cup.
Hi pompeydownunder - we are definitely missing our midfield ballwinner Jame Dunne. Out for a few months after a recent knee operation. Don't appear to have a ready made replacement in the squad, so bringing in former academy youngsters. Believe our manager made the wrong decisions today regarding our formation. Will be relieved if we can hold Argyle to a 3-0 scoreline after 90 minutes.
Holmes overran it but got it back to get a throw in which was taken long, headed away which Wallace picked up and tried a long shot that went over.
Holmes is certainly Pompey's man-of-the-match - though that doesn't mean much. He's been our most lively player.
Agree with your comments. Would prefer Danny Hollands as skipper, or better still James Dunne when fit again. He appears to be more of a leader on the pitch. Reckon Ricardo Rocha could still do a good job in our defence.
