I stumbled across this article from a few days ago in the Daily Fail

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2831284/Danny-Welbeck-cost-Arsenal-8million-Premier-League-goal-Ayoze-Perez-s-three-strikes-set-Newcastle-just-500-000-apiece-best-value-striker-signed-summer.html

And it got me thinking; what is a goal worth in the Premier League?
It is certainly more than it used to be, would it be fair to say that for every £1,000,000 on a transfer fee (for an attacker) you'd expect about 1-1.5 goals per season?
If Shane Long hit 12+ goals this season, would that work out about right for what we paid? (I know he brings more than goals)
Pelle is looking at being very good value for money (you'd hope his goals will only cost us about £500,000 a piece per season, but if, dare I say, we were to sell him, whoever bought him would be looking at coughing up £20,000,000), Diego Costa looks like he'll work out at around 1 goal/season/million.
Everton paid £27 million for Lukaku, no doubt hoping he'd score 20+ goals for them.

Does it hint at how mad finances in football are that most teams in the premier now would pay £10 million for a striker that is unlikely to reach double figures?

too many variables but as a basic rule, you're going to pay more for someone with a proven record at the level or specific league in question, so lukaku and long cost about 2m per goal.

diego costa was a punt on fitness and transition to this league and maybe his club were keener to cash in.

pelle is older, wasn't proven at this level, and most of us anticipated it would be a good effort to reach double figures.

It's easy enough to click on a link on newsnow without looking at the publisher as well.

That's like telling your wife that you are only friends with a woman of ill repute.

I am only thinking about her feelings when I say it is best that my wife remains ignorant of this particular indiscretion.
(I am of course talking about reading the Daily Mail).
