25 years of playing football and was only sent off once, as a 12 year old! Had a shot from outside area just as it bobbled (honestly it did!) and it skied over the bar, in frustrated I muttered to myself 'Fack' not even loud enough for anyone but the ref who was stood about 5 yards away to hear. In his wisdom he decided it was foul and abusive language and I was banned for 28 days!
In relation to this thread......did any parent have the presence of mind to just rough the weasel ref up in car park!!!
So there's parents shouting and screaming from a balcony at an indoor school tournament with kids aged 9/10? And your main concern is the refs time keeping?? Bet the kids were proud!! If there not fussed and are still playing why are the parents?
Yes.. parents..... the bane of a coaches life... the coach watches the game and wonders why little Johnny isn't doing his proper job for the team, until he suddenly hears little johnnys know it all father telling him to do the exact opposite of what you had spent a lot of training that week trying and the pre match talk, discussing ....
Ive been gobsmacked by some of the things I've seen lately.. I feel for the kids more than the coaches! On Sunday after a 8yr old tried a maradonna turn in his own half his dad shouted " you Idiot this isn't a game of FIFA get rid of it" Then we wonder why no english players have flair? Ok a refs time keeping is wrong is that really a reason to shout off a balcony? Is it a reason to start a thread on a football forum more or less accusing people who actually give there time to local football of cheating? Unbelievable really!
When I was in sixth form. We won a five-a-side competition and were put into the East Riding Finals at Hessle High. We played Hessle in the final and it was 1-1 and right near the end I hit a shot, there was a bar along the bottom of the net keeping it in place so it hit the bar in the net and came out. We were celebrating and the ref (who amazingly was their substitute for the game said it hit the post) and then they scored while we celebrated. The other schools pointed out that it went in but even worse, the ref was celebrating with them as they had a pile on, it's kind of laughable looking back.
Ey? We're not talking about a few minutes extra and the odd bad call. We're talking about clear examples of cheating in youth football. Get your head out your arse.
A thread started accusing a local youth ref of deliberatey cheating because he knew some of the 9 year olds and your telling me to get my head out my arse?
They shouted at the ref after the second to last game and again after the last game. There wasn't any insults I heard, only questionining why the games lengths were so different. I simply stated what I saw as a bystander. My opinion wasn't added in at any point. I'm not condoning what the parents did, neither am I condoning what the referee did. And like somebody else said, it's a thread of when users have experienced blatant cheating in youth football which the thread had extended into. I'm not even sure where your sudden anger has stemmed from? If you don't like this discussion then press the back button and discuss something else.
Talking of managers refereeing games...When I lived in Cambridge my lad was playing for a village team called Swavesy Spartans.... We had to play away at Soham and the father of Holly Wells was refereeing the match as his son played for the team. What a guy he was he came across to talk to us in private before the game and his wishes where to treat his son like any other player on the pitch. I was running the line and he acknowledged every decision I made. Hats off to him. For those who don't recognise the name it was the tragic murder of his daughter Holly and Jessica Chapman ..... Can't believe that is 12 years ago.
I can see why you're rarely on here, I was having a laugh. I wouldn't take an Internet forum to heart. Bore off.
The direction of the ball is irrelevant, to be in front of the ball on a corner means you are off the pitch. Can only be offside if an attacker touched the ball.
Knowing Barry as I do through Primary School football, reading that post is getting me quite angry. Barry is nothing less than an honest volunter and has no links other than running the Hull Primaries rep teams. This has never once influenced him when my team are at one of his tournaments. Barry, like me, believes penalties should NEVER settle kids football. The only reason a game would go on would be to avoid penalties or a playoff. I can only assume your asessment of the situation leading up to the match was wrong. Maybe they were level on pts, gd and gs. Maybe you had the match score wrong. Or maybe Barry made an honest mistake. To be honest, I don't care. Your assumption and allegation he was cheating is completly out of order. The time he puts into junior football and the amount of begging and scraping about for money... he deserves one of those BBC awards that Roger at HandER badminton got. This after his stroke four or five years ago. I won't mention any of this however when I'm there with my lot on Tue and Thu.... it's bollocks. Barry is a decent bloke.
With how football is now at the professional level the referees have become the stars of the show and that's one of the reasons I'm now just an armchair fan. With football becoming virtually non-contact and sendings off and penalties being more frequent the power in the referees hands is clearly ridiculous.
So me stating what the parents were questionining him about is me accusing him of cheating? Are you having a laugh? Like I said many times, I was just stood there and happened to witness it happening. I've known him years too and he did the correct thing of ignoring those shouting down about it all. The facts are the game did go on longer than the stated eight minutes whilst the game after it was way shorter. I watched both as our group had finished. Regarding the penalty issue, I agree with that too. Penalties are an awful way of sending kids through/out. Interestingly, the year Barry was ill and didn't organise the tournaments, Mr Arridge of St Mary's covered and introduced penalties and playoffs during the qualification procedure - something Barry rightfully switched back on finals night. I did see the other ref (not Barry) strangely give a penalty in one game for the defender being in the area but an indirect in the next game for the same offence. That one was odd, nobody seemed to know what was going on there. I didn't read the importance of the match wrongly mind, Gillshill were +1 ahead on GD and would have gone through with a draw or so I heard a member of staff tell their team when I popped across to watch. Again I've not added my opinion in. I wasn't involved in those games and have no idea why things happened the way they did. Like you said, could have been an honest mistake (probably was) but him talking to the other kids may have fuelled whatever the parents were shouting down. I don't know what they were thinking. Seems you are shot down for just reporting events these days. But I do believe children aren't given a fair crack of the whip for getting into Hull Boys or Hull Schools. I'm not pinning that on Barry, it's not his team and like you say, he only volunteers. His minor stroke I believe was 3 years ago.
You could be stood ahead of the ball on an out swinging corner if you're on the line or whatever so wouldn't be off the pitch. Not that any of this matters because there are no offsides in Primary Football anymore.
