Who could these, âWeâve been watching a certain quantity of players in certain positions for a while. Possibly be? Have Brighton got any more bang average players they want to offload? GUS Poyet will use the current international break to finalise his targets for the January transfer window. The Sunderland head coach is set to meet sporting director Lee Congerton at the Academy of Light this week. And between them, the pair will thrash out the final details of who to pursue when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year. Poyet is keen to strengthen a squad whose limitations have been exposed early this season, particularly in defence. With full-backs Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt both out injured at the moment, Sunderland have had to play right-back Anthony Reveillere at left-back and were forced to include teenage full-back Tommy Robson on the bench for the weekend Premier Leagye game against Everton. Poyet, however, is likely to want to strengthen not just in defence but also explore his options in midfield and up front, and he and Congerton will be looking at outgoing as well as incoming players in their talks. Despite their inclusion in recent squads, Sunderland will look for buyers for the likes of Danny Graham and Cabral, while misfit American striker Jozy Altidore has already talked about the need to consider his options if his game time remains as limited as it has been this season. Traditionally, club chairman Ellis Short has shown himself reluctant to spend heavily in the mid-season transfer window, although he has never failed to provide money for recruitment if the case has been well made to him. And there is likely to be plenty of horse-trading going on before the turn of the year as Poyet seeks to add depth to a squad he has already suggested is under-powered. It all means there will be much for the Uruguayan and Congerton to discuss when they finally sit down to a re-scheduled meeting this week. Poyet told the Echo: âWeâre watching plenty of things for January. âWe met after Southampton â that was the original date set â but, after 15 minutes of the meeting, I said to them, âboys, this is not the right week to meet!â âAt that moment in time, I said I need this, this, this, this, this, this and this after losing 8-0! âBut we did manage to go through the basics and weâll meet again this week.â Although Sunderland will look to firm up their targets in the very near future, the process of searching for and identifying targets has, of course, been going on for months. And after this weekâs meeting, Sunderland are expected to put the wheels in motion so that they have the best possible chance of making early breakthroughs in the January window. Poyet confirmed: âWeâve been watching a certain quantity of players in certain positions for a while. âNow, itâs time to meet. âLast year, we put a timescale on when we would start moving forward. âSo, in the next two or three weeks, weâll start getting in contact with clubs and agents and see where we get to.
Well "bang average" Bridcutt was excellent on Sunday mind. Looked every bit a premier league player. Buckley made a difference when he came on too. I like the last two lines of the interview. Looks like Poyet is putting things in place.
a CB after missing out on williams (hopefully van djik), full back cover, hope we dont spend the window chasing borini again, but have a feeling we will and a striker, maybe joel campbell
Think we'll see a full back and centre midfielder on permanent signings and a forward from the premier league on loan. I dont think we'll sign a centre back on a permanent deal due to the contract situations with Brown Vergini and Coates.
We could certainly do with more pace for counterattacking, which we might be more effective at when Giac is back.
Don't be silly man. We don't have any injuries. Only Livepool have as they have Daniel Sturridge injured so it's the end of the world for them!
Striker and a LB please. Strikers: If looking to Europe, then - Soriano or Jackson MartÃnez (probably wouldnt get them, but we doesnt mean we shouldnt try), Luiz Adriano, Junior Moraes (last 2 both play in Ukraine, so would probs be happy to play anywhere else). I have no idea what LBs would be available
CMs who don't score OGs would be a start. Bit of FB cover and then consider our attacking options. How will we fill the huge void left by Connor? Clearly a 5-goal a season striker will be hard to find...
A full back, a center Half and like for like if we can get shot of some of the deadwood and the deluded.
nee one is naming names, cos we all know the types of players we need.. but will never have them, running on a shoestring...we are where we are..
Woah!!! Jackson Martinez is going to move for £30-40m when he does leave Porto. Players in Ukraine, particularly Brazilians at top clubs, are on HUGE money. Don't think they'd be in any rush to leave!
Cameron is coming. He's a CB RB and Mid in a pinch. Checks a lot of boxes. He'll be the cover guy. Maybe he'll even be a starting CB. Then Gus gets whoever he is targeting. Cameron provides him a lot of freedom in the market. Makes too much sense not to happen. My prediction.
Cameron is steady but with Rev and Jones do we need a RB? Not sure he's a good enough CB so would only be his versatility that attracted us. Maybe others have seen more of him than me?
Who we should buy, based on my watching of too much football. 2 CB's - Nikola Maksimovic of Torino who is an absolute beast, and Joel Veltman of Ajax who is an immaculate footballer alongside. Creative midfielder - Easy, the insanely brilliant Leonardo Bittencourt, bizarrely saddled at a ****ty Hannover due to past injury concerns. Striker - No more tall planks, Udinese & Colombia forward Luis Muriel. Pay £12million now and he will be worth Suarez money in 3 years if he clicks. However, we will buy whoever is available for 50p or less.
Ow mods, stop locking that ****ing borini thread Handsome Fabio is back on track. http://www.footballfancast.com/foot...-attempt-to-sign-out-of-favour-liverpool-ace?
