You have to laugh, last week we got away with one or two things at Palace, but today's made up for it big time, it was comical but sick at the same time.
You don't mean the Whickham penalty which was a penalty or their keeper falling on the ball without touching it.....which he didn't . So which mistakes do you mean?
To be fair I think the ref got just about everything right, he could even have senT Whickham off, on a positive note I thought we weren't,t bad at all acRoss the board, thought Bridcutt apaRt from 1 very dodgy back pass was great, out muscling someone of Lukakku,s size especially
Oh refs you just got to love them and get on with it, everybody can make a mistake said the tortoise humping a brick.
Their keeper falling on the ball outside the box to stop our players getting it - if he didn;t touch the ball then it's obstruction at the very least and a goalscoring opportunity. So it's a punishable decision. The penalty looked a good tackle from my seat - watched the replays and it was stonewall so can't argue that.
Hes not trying to play the ball though. He's trying to stop opponents playing it. If the ball ends up under someone's legs then, at the very least, it's a drop ball. This was a very similar situation. So it should've been a at least contested drop ball on the edge of the box?
Complicated isn't it and I have no idea how refs are taught to interpret but in a way he is shielding and you can certainly do that.
Have to admit it's the hardest job in the world but only due to the amoount of camera's and money involved in the game. I used to ref at u10's and it's a nightmare at that level having to ask parents to leave as they're swearing at me and being threatened by parents and managers of kids teams. This is why there is no respect. The crowd always think they are better at refereeing the game than the referee's are... In reality the referee's get 99% of decisions right. Problem is when that 1% costs you a game
Having watched MOTD2 just now - Baines not yellow carded for intentional cynical foul on Buckley (which led to the goal) - Lukaku not yellow carded for drag back on Buckley... I wonder what Lee Mason would've done had Phil Jagielka or John O'Shea done what Tim Howard did? I reckon he'd have given a free kick straight away against them or any other outfield player!) - one rule for keepers...
