Ive defended him as I thought people's abuse of him was ridiculous last year when we was playing in a terrible side with no support. I think now though that it looks clear its just not gonna happen here for him. He really needed a good world cup and to come back full of confidence but that was ruined by injury. Recouping what we can in January and buying a versatile forward is our best option. Hes the type of player who will just get worse and worse if hes sat about waiting for a chance. His cameo against Arsenal was indefensible and he didn't really do anything attacking wise on monday that was good. Our best chance of a good deal is a bid from the MLS where his stock is high. Can't see us getting more than £2m from a German or French club
Jozy and his agent need to sit down and watch some footage of jozys attempt to play football in a Sunderland strip in order to rationalise their expectations Saying that, his agent will probably end up telling him to retire
TBF to all, he is just not for our style of play considering he is a regular scorer for USA (in a defferent system), same applies in Holland for an unfashionable club indicating he has ability. Unfortunately the signs are that playing the ball to his feet is not for him. If he does go I hope he succeeds as he does have a latent scoring ability that we just cannot cater for.
Must think scoring 2 goals since he came here warrants a first team start. Can't see us getting much in return compared to the outlay if he goes but ne point in crying over spilt milk. Would rather have Watmore on the bench coming on for the last 10 or so mins.
Well, I'm a bit of a fan of Gyan's too. But I wouldn't advise him to come here right now. Asamoah's a player who likes to wander all over the field. And Gus would insist that he stays in the middle like a battering ram - just as he's done with Altidore! I think Poyet would ruin Gyan, for the same reason as I believe he will ruin Altidore if he doesn't get out of here. I've a lot of time for Gus, and in many different ways support him to the hilt. But we'd be foollish to ignore his stubborn streak. 40,000 people could see that Altidore in that fixed central position was not working by November last season - and he played him there till late March! I frankly wouldn't wish Poyet on Gyan for the world. What we are looking for is a Drogba, and the sooner we find one the better. Because that's the only thing Gus will be happy with.
I think this system needs a complete forward like, one thing none of our forwards can do is link play deep and contribute to a build up. If we had a striker who can drop into midfield effectively our inside forwards would have a licence to rush beyond him. Like Michu at Swansea when playing the CF role.
Excellent point mate. Yes, that would work. My only reservation is would Poyet let it work that way? He seems hell-bent on a 'spearhead' type centre-forward - a Shearer or Drogba. If he would let Gyan play Gyan's way, then I couldn't agree with you more.
There is only 1 player in the premier league with a pass completion rate of less than 50% = jozy Jozy has 1 assist to his name in his time at safc He has scored 1 goal Time to go jozy, no more defending from me
Haven't seen it mentioned, but if his agent is in contact with a number of clubs, isnt that tapping up and illegal?
I mean, Gyan won't come back will he? It's unrealistic. We couldn't afford him, he probably wouldn't come and it would probably cause outrage amongst fans. We can't afford an established complete forward, they're like gold dust. Congerton needs to scout his bollocks off and find and up and coming youngster we can develop. Away from the complete forward thing For Jan, even though we probably won't have much of a budget. We still have a Premier league loan to use. Looking at Arsenal I see we've been linked with that useless Sanogo but looking at their squad it's likely Joel Campbell & Lukas Podolski would be grateful of some first team football. One of those would be great. One has pace and the other has a wealth of experience. Both would be welcome. If we could get one of those two and not the other I'd be please as punch. Need to get Jozy and Graham off the books first though
We need a change up front, Fletch is no1 and needs to stay fit, any two of the other three can go in the next window, hopefully its Jozy and Graham, we would then need bring in one striker as a direct replacement and ease either Mandron or Watmore into the picture.
No, I don't think Gyan would come back here. Apparently, di Fanti approached Darren Bent last summer, but Bent said he wasn't comfortable with it after the fans had booed him and turned against him. I reckon we'd get the same response from Gyan. The sort of unbridled spite that we've had on here this last week or so (about Altidore) sometimes comes back to bite us, and whilst we could do a lot worse than Bent and Gyan these days, neither would touch us with a barge-pole. I don't blame them. They booed Kevin Phillips in 2006 when he opted to stay in the Midlands, too. I take it you were using Gyan as an example of the type of player you think would fit in, and I used him in the same way.
Mandron struggled to get in the team or make an impact at league 2 Fleetwood. Watmore hardly pulled up any trees either at Hibs. They are miles away from the first team and should be out on loan again to get some proper football under their belts
Who did? I don't know a single Sunderland game where Kevin Phillips got booed - and I've missed 4 or 5 home games in 20 odd years.
Yeah mate. I'm no Gonnads you see mate so don't know who else is out there but I know Gyan and his game and think that sort of forward would be a great option to have.
Got to defend Watmore here, he had a about two games fit for Hibs and really impressed, then he got an injury that kept him out and then kept niggling on his return which kept him from getting 100% fit the rest of his loan period. Watmore would make an impact if giving an opportunity imo. Mandron on the other hand is miles behind Watmore and they're the same age. Mandron won't make it imo and will end up a L1/championship player. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking for some kind of fee though.
