Felt sorry for him tonight for that mistake like. Having said that, he's scored 10 career goals to date. 6 however, have been in the wrong end. He'll feel loads better now we've got the three points. Well done lads....3-1 away.....gerrrin !!!
Well, his mate managed to foul up last season at sellhurst park, so he thought he'd have a go this time. Luckily for him we scored more in the right end than he managed to put in at the wrong end In his defence though, it want his fault that we switched off at the set piece, or needlessly continually conceded possession further up the pitch
Wicks repeatedly lost possetion and gave away more than his share of free kicks, but he is playing out of position and will be replaced soon in my opinion. Our wingers were poor compared to their wide men but everyone else had solid games and this won the day. A huge result and well deserved.
Still rate him massively, just bad luck tonight, He was committed to defending and it could have happened to anyone. It's the Brown-esque mess up against Arsenal I'd like to see him cut out. But he's been prone to those mistakes his old career.
It was unlucky as obviously he was just trying to put the ball out but it's come to a point where you have to ask why does Wes Brown score so many own goals? I count the cocked up pass back against Arsenal as one as although he didn't score it himself he may as well have. Is it a confidence issue? I don't get that impression. Is he past it now? I don't get that impression either. As it happens I couldn't care less today because we got a great win but it is very odd that he, and Sunderland defenders in general, score a bizarre amount of own goals.
Funny quotation from the Guardian's live match coverage on 81 mins: "The problem is that, beyond giving the ball to Wes Brown and hoping for the best, Palace don’t seem to have any particular idea of how they might score."
I thought it glanced in off the post so an inch to the right it would have been a different tale. **** happens, that piece of bad luck apart he did have a good game.
Very harsh that mind Billy - Brown had to play the ball which had run very close to him as there was an attacker stood behind his run - it was a goal if he didn't play it and, if he didn't play it he'd be slated. Certainly don't blame Brown for the OG. Coloccini had a similar one the other day but it hit the outside of the post - on another day that goes in the corner (or if you're Sunderland) and you end up losing a game instead of going on to win it. Good team performance IMO
Good team performance spot on MBC. Its great to see Poyet still has them 100% behind him. Life is much better on a sunny day after win like that.
It was nice to see actually Wes and Gus having a little shrug and laugh about it at the end. Obviously would of been different if we lost BUT we didnt. I can knock many thing but not the guys commitment, if Wickham had half the commitment of Wes he would be a great player!! And what i did like more about Wes was that he didnt hide after the OG even though he must of been feeling awful!
Brown scores more own goals because he makes more blocks and tackles in the six yard box than anyone else in the team, we need players like Wes and Catts, Gus praised Brown in his post match interview, we should do the same.
Yep. Fair to say, when you look at the list of 'most OG's scored' and exclude Frank Sinclair, who was ****, most of those defenders had superb, honour filled careers. Isn't Rio right up there? And Carragher? I'd say they were both half decent in their day.
Can't knock the lad for trying to get in the way of a shot that went in-off!! Can't believe he's getting s**t for that! We are better with him than without! He's got a wise head on his shoulders, can see the bigger picture and can mobilise the guys around him when we're on the back foot. The other younger players take confidence from his presence! He's not getting any younger but that's a whole different argument! Billy, give the lad a break. He made mistakes and they're close together so they stand out. But we forget all the other good work he's done that goes unseen.
