must have been why the f** have i just associated him with deep purple? has he ever had anything to do with deep purple?
He looks a bit like my mate Phil, lol. I love Strangers On The Shore though. Beautiful piece of music. Was once in Stanley Central Club & there was a lad on who was a saxophonist. Anyhow, it was his break & he went to the bar for a drink. I asked him if he did requests & he said he did. I asked him to play that tune & he said he didn't have a clarinet. I said, 'nee bother lad, just play it on your sax' & he did. ****ing cracking, that lad had tears streaming down my eyes.
. Must admit i have heard the name but nee idea who he was. Shame as now he has gone, i will only know him as someone from Deep Purple who did 70s porn music. Wonder if Debbie from Dallas was a fan?
The only other hit singles I remember him having were 'Summer Set' and 'Aria', though he sold a lot of traditional jazz albums . RIP
I never had a lot of time for the French, and especially after they left NATO. But in my quieter moments, I find myself - very reluctantly - having to admit that the French sometimes do things so very beautifully. And perhaps, this is one of them. RIP Acker. As an ex army bandsman, I played the Clarinet, we all had immense respect for musicians like Acker Bilk and others, Jack Brymer for instance. Stranger on the shore was such a lovely piece, it's quite simple to play actually, but that is maybe why it's so popular.
Looks like WMS was right, well in a way.
