This is a blow. Obertan has epitomised our recent revival and was again, a breath of fresh air yesterday.
    Hope he recovers soon.
On the plus side we will at least get the chance to have aq good look at Aarons.

Pardew admits Obertan injury is a "bad one"

ALAN PARDEW admits Gabriel Obertan is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after damaging his thigh during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Obertan fell to the floor clutching his thigh midway through the first half of Saturday’s victory, with the incident occurring as he sprinted up the touchline without an opposition player involved.

After a lengthy spell of treatment on the field, the French winger was lifted onto a stretcher and carried around the perimeter of the pitch before hobbling down the tunnel.

An initial assessment of his injury suggested he had torn a thigh muscle, but more detailed scans tomorrow should reveal the full extent of the problem.

The prognosis is unlikely to be too positive, and after making a major contribution to Newcastle’s recent upturn in form, Obertan now finds himself facing a lengthy absence.

Pardew said: “The only sour note of the day was Obertan’s injury. He has been a big part of the success in these last few weeks, and it is a bad one.

“We are all sad for Gabby, and we just hope it is not too bad. But he has done something to his thigh muscle.”

In Obertan’s absence, Ayoze Perez scored the second-half winner that secured Newcastle’s third league win in succession and lifted them to 11th in the table after the remainder of Saturday’s matches.

Pardew enjoyed a victory over Liverpool in his first game as Newcastle manager, and having suffered at the hands of the Anfield club on a number of occasions since then, he was delighted to start redressing the balance.

He said: “It was a great day for us. Liverpool are always a big target for this club and we have had some big games against them.

“This was not an enthralling encounter, but it was interesting. Brendan (Rodgers) surprised me with his formation and that unsettled us as first.

“We struggled to have a foothold, but we have such pace in the team and we can defend deep. The back four were terrific.”

Oooft. Thigh muscle injury on FM is like 2/3 months out, and that's with robotic physios... Still, give him the juice they gave Raylor and he'll come back like Superman <ok>

This is a real shame for him. Hopefully will not turn out to be too bad.

He could not put any weight on his leg to even stand. That is always a bad sign. I think it's a pretty serious tear to the muscle. Losing him is indeed a blow, now we've to see Gouffran <doh>

Really gutted for the guy. It just shows how hard he has worked and how much he has improved to see how gutted everyone is.

It's hard to believe that Obertan is the same player we have seen before. Confidence does wonders.

The level of disappointment in his injury is heightened further by the looming shadow of Gouffran.

Precisely. What's to say he won't turn his form around as most of the team have?

Gouffran's not as bad as everyone would like to make out. He's been largely poor so far this term but until three games ago everybody was dross.

For a good while he was the best of the latest French imports for his effort and application. Not always full of quality but certainly a willing runner, going forward and tracking back.

With the new found confidence filtering through the squad and his chance coming to step in for Gabby, who knows?

Awful luck. First time he gets himself sorted and has the confidence to actually look decent, and he picks up a bad one. Gutting for him. Supposedly a very popular lad in the dressing room. We'll miss him, his pace has been a massive threat.
