Having listened to a few of his interviews ..... I'm going with this. I may be wrong, but he comes across as somebody that runs on a weak AAA battery.
Just saw the penalty shout from Shelvey's shot in the first half. Definite hand ball, WTF was the player doing diving to the ground with nobody around.
At least shelvey tried to score and would take an opportunity to take a long range shot if he saw one. I think some are being unkind to shelvey myself...
I said most other Prem teams would have got a battering TODAY (based on Everton's performance TODAY) Actually, I should change that to most other mid/lower Prem teams.....
Yeah, I have to be honest, its kind of grating me how incredibly harsh on him we've been generally this season. He started the season poorly and did a stupid thing today but there's a line and I feel like people might be crossing it a bit without justification.
I did a comparison in another thread about Robbie James and Shelvey in terms of where they both were at this age. Bottom line - Robbie was way ahead. Shelvey lacks something. It might be a lack of intelligence. It might be a lack of maturity. It might be laziness. Pick your attribute ... but he's been playing first team professional football, along side (presumably) helpful seniors and coaches since he was 16. He's not green, but he plays at times like he as no idea what self-discipline means. The types of fouls he gives away, far too often, are mindless, unnecessary and gift the opposition chances. At some point you have to calculate whether this is as good as it gets and whether "this" is something we need to replace with better. After the number of professional seasons he has had, his "lack of whatever" is not suddenly going to correct. IMO.
Don't agree Cherry. Shelvey can win or lose you a game in equal measure as he's that kind of player. but he's already been suspended once this season for yellow accumulations and now he's suspended again after only just returning. That tells me he's got a problem, possibly more than one.
Maybe not deserved but a great point.we could average a point a game from here and be on 43 points....amazing really
No! Apparently he is clever! Garry Monk: "It was a cheap yellow which Jonjo Shelvey gave away for the first booking. I explained it to him but he is a clever lad and understands that when you are on a yellow you can't make those kind of challenges."
Just got back from the game. Pisses me off these cheap bookings, that then backfires on us big time. This petulance had to be stamped out. Monk goes on about fining players who dive in training, we'll start fining the bastards for stupidly throwing of kicking the ball away. Big well done to our defence, Ash and particularly Fernandez look a quality partnership. Think Fernandez won every header against Eto. All in all very happy with a point.
There is a steady improvement on Shelvey's game, and he is far more consistent than when he first joined, all he needs to do is sort his discipline issues out a tad, some of his long balls are superb!............
No I know, but I was referring as well to people jumping on him from day one of the season because he didn't start well and some of the stronger worded criticism.
I go with view that if he was Spanish he wouldn't be at the club. Contentious? Not at all -- an opinion. Jonjo has been, is and always will be a liability. How many fouls does he needlessly give away in dangerous areas? How often does he get involved in rucks that are nothing to do with him? How often does he give the ball away? How often does he wins header? He has had a few decent minutes this season but and was good last week. A player who is effective in 1 game in 10 is a liability today was sheer stupidity ... cue Shelvey's apology to the fans and team mates.
