They have had a Halloween marathon on today I only bothered to watch 1 and 2 but Beetlejuice is on next.
In years gone by you would never have known it was halloween watching British tv. I only recall the ocassional Paul Daniels special and the infamous Ghostwatch. Now we have hundreds of channels it's a bit different. But still it's not a big thing.
Do they at least show Hocus Pocus? Its a must watch every year, I got my viewing in a week or so ago.
Funnily enough, our lass made sure we watched that this year. Had to be on netflix though. Didn't notice it on any channels. I like to watch the old classics like Forbidden Planet, This Island Earth, The Thing, Quatermass and the pit etc.
They play it a couple times a day for weeks on end before Halloween here. I like to watch a couple from a series Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street every year or even crappy ones like Wrong Turn or the Hills Have Eyes. I mix it up so next year I'll watch something other than Halloween like I did this time.
It's not taken on as much here yet as it has in the UK but it's getting bigger. When we were kids Bonfire night was always bigger than Halloween but now it seems to be the other way around.
Why is it if someone doesnt like stuff that kids like, you're immediately 'miserable'? If someone said they dont like ballet nobody would ever respond "oh you miserable bastard". This isnt aimed at you OLM, its a genuine question that you just reminded me of. Its a really strange thing the way not liking certain things is seen as miserable but not liking others is perfectly acceptable to society.
You are a right bloody Scrooge, though. No wonder you gravitated to a team that plays in black and blue.
What are you basing that on? I like Christmas, Easter and Bonfire Night. Just because i dont like trick or treat. I think its a valid point. When was the last time you heard someone say "oh you love dont like football. What a miserable twat"?
I like to reflect on the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and how he gave himself up to spare humanity. That and you can do an alldayer on the friday and still have 3 days to recover. Its the best drinking weekend of the year.
So by you Logic Easter is an Americanism then as it's recently been over egged, Farthers day too I imagine? In fact every calender event is an Americanism due to almost all of them being taken to the extreme. Damn those Americans they get everywhere even in events they have no connection too such as Nov 5th.
Easter, in my lifetime, has never changed. Eggs were given as gifts when i was a baby. Fact. Ive spent Easter in many different countries and in many of them they give eggs as gifts. I tell you what does royally piss me off, Asda doing Black Friday. It means nothing to us. Everyone always responds theyre an American company but so what - do English companies in America have Penny For The Guy? It wont be long before we celebrate Independence Day here even though it ****ing has a go at us. Since you brought it up please tell me, what do Americans do on 5th November?
Easter is far more massive than it used to be of that there is no doubt. Your logic dictates that it's Americas fault surely. America does nothing on Nov 5 as that is a British celebration which has also become far more large (Working in retail I see first hand the eye watering amounts some spend on it) again using YOUR logic it has to be Americas fault if you are blaming the Halloween explosion on Americanism instead on it being that British retailers have woken up to the massive amounts of cash to be made across the board. There are Americanisms such as saying Santa instead of Father Christmas and using the words 'trick or treat' instead of 'Happy Halloween'.
Erm, no thats not using my logic at all. At no point did i say that everything that has become popular culture in the UK was 'America's fault'. I said the increased popularity of trick or treating at Halloween was down to American popular culture. Which it absolutely, undoubtedly 100% is. This might be the most spectacular missing of point ive ever seen on here.
Spot on. It's not just little kids knocking on the door though is it? Some of the c***s that knock on the door look old enough to go to the pub. Perfect night last night...only one knock at the door. Maybe the recession has hit the chavy mums n dads who buy the cheap crap from Asda. Happy after halloweens day to one and all. 3 points today lads
