You may be right - the odd clips I've seen were very funny, but for some reason I never got to watch it. Maybe I missed out there.

It's easily the best satirical comedy out there IMO.

Peter Capaldi's character is just magnificent. I don't think I've heard anyone ever swear so much.

I hate snobbery in comedy (as some have shown on this thread), the bottom line is if a comedian/sitcom finds an audience and makes them laugh then its good comedy, anything other than that is just personal taste.

People seem to look down on broad or popular comedy when it is no better or worse than obscure indie comedy, its just different, for different people.

As for good sitcoms, I'm a big fan of Parks and Recreation, Community, The Office (US), Man Down...etc. As for stand up, Donald Glover, Louis CK and Aziz Ansari have all done very good shows in the last few years.

I can't believe I left the thick of it off the list, cracking comedy.

I deliberately left Us comedy off my list, but there's loads of good stuff about. Airlie mentioned some good ones, but I'd add My Name Is Earl to that list, I was late coming into it but I really enjoyed it.

I loved the Young Ones when it was first aired, great characters and the random bands playing in the front room.

    Motörhead being my favourite.

Ye My Name is Earl was great but run its course fairly quickly. Cracking couple of women in it too.

Anyone been watching Maron? Quite like it.

    Love The Young Ones.

Me and the old man regularly communicate through Young Ones references, why I have no idea.

I like David Mitchell, and I find him really funny and witty, but does anyone else find Peep Show extremely unfunny?

I like it. Haven't watched it in a while though, so may have to have another look.

I like most things with Mitchell and Webb.

I've only watched it a few times, but I don't find it funny at all. I find David Mitchell brilliant in everything but Peep Show.

The only thing I’ve ever liked either of them in was Peep Show.

Their own stuff, in my opinion, is ****ing ****e.

Have to say, the short fat one gets on my nerves these days too.

Some other good calls with Curb and The Thick Of It.

How about Marion & Geoff? Excellent, very dark and before Brydon did that abomination Gavin & Stacy (think it was Fez who mentioned Corden was a **** – most definitely)

For newer stuff, I’d really recommend Limmy’s Show – although, this was only shown in Scotland it should be avail online.

    How about worst comedies?

I’ve never seen these but my skin would crawl at the sight of an advert of Two Pints Of Lagers – I seriously never any **** who claimed to watch it..

That long running pile of ****e with Robert Lindsay and Wanamaker – My Family???????

There was some other comedy with Carrott which seemed like some sort of E&D box ticking exercise – he had an Asian wife, disabled son etc etc.
Finally, that new thing, Citizen Khan – though I have to admit that looks that ****ing ****e I might have to watch it.

Loved The Young Ones as a kid in the 80s.

Rewatched it in the 90s - really felt it had dated incredibly badly.

That said, I really like Ade Ed; Mayall et al.

Some of the Comic Strip Presents were ace.

    Bad News stands out.

The Office was a work of pure genius, 100% ROFL for me, though my wife didn't get it. Ricky G. is the ONLY person that could ever be David Brent, as the piss-poor US knock-off proved. Fools and Horses was another masterpiece, as was (most of) Little Britain. Anyone who disagrees is a miserable sod.
