    Chiriches? He's been very poor so far, but he's an international defender who's been watched by Chelsea and Roma, so what's the point in leaving him out entirely?
    I believe he's played there before and he certainly seems to have the footballing ability to do a job there, which is what Dier's doing anyway.

    I didn't see the game. However, from what I have read, you ask yourself where does stubbornness end and stupidity begin? After all, the definition of stupidity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

    I agree with you if you replace top 6 with top 10

    Commentator was giving your manager a load of stick IMHO.
    Giving it the 'it's too big a job for him' .
    Personally think you chaps are in a transition phase and MP will come good as he did at Saints.
    What's your guys view?

    Agree with all that. We have been incredibly lucky so far asking a rookie CB to be our regular RWB every game. Asking him to be a regular RB is a big ask of a young player new to the country, but asking him to cover the entire right hand side every single game is now looking a bit absurd.

    Anyone else notice how he was jogging a bit lethargically back into position for their second goal? He could have made a difference to the cross if he'd moved faster.

    And I still swear I see more promise and invention and just general sharpness (in everything but finishing) from Soldado than from most others when he gets possession. But what did he get today? Another 10 minutes? Jeez - I'm really desperate - trying to make out that a bit of movement here or a little pass there is somehow an indication that Solado could click.

    Tell you what - I feel more confident, in the short-term, that he could turn his Spurs career around than I do with Lamela. Soldado needs a bit of confidence which could come in a flash. Lamela needs to do spend a lot more time on the training pitch and learning how to play the game in general. He basically needs to mature a bit and that won't happen in a flash. (I still have great hope, though, that he could turn into a very, very good player but right now he's a Cup player).

    Danny Murphy? Don't think he got much wrong, which I can't say for Pochettino.
    The part about being given a job that was too big for him was very premature, though.
    We have the same problem with our managers as we do with our players. We can't get the best, so we have to take a chance on those rejected by others or on the way up.
    Time will tell if our current incumbent is up to the task. It would be nice to see him given that time, though. Others haven't been.

    I think that he needs to play in the middle. The problem is that Eriksen does, too. We probably need to start playing Lennon on the right and leaving one of them out.

    Oh Jesus yeah. Yeah play that idiot there - he can "be a bit handy on the ball for a defender" out there. So long as we also play Lennon to bail him out when the defending part gets tricky.

    The big problem we have at the moment is that we are relying on inconsistent players or players who have potential to be very good players but aren't there yet.

    We are looking to the likes of Ade and Chadli for goals, but what do they contribute when they are not scoring? I know it is very easy to say but Chelsea can afford/attract a player like Costa to come in and they know they can rely on him for goals. We don't know if Ade is going to bother to show up. Arsenal can attract Sanchez who had two chances yesterday and took them. Realistically we are buying players from a tier below them and relying on them week in week out, the likes of Lamela and Eriksen who could be 9/10 players but are currently 6 or 7 out of 10.

    Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino:

    "It's a big hit for us. We deserved more, but we made one or two big mistakes and it's difficult to win the game.

    "It's not easy to compete in the Europa League and Premier League. Today it was about a lack on concentration at the start of the second half and then the head is gone. It's hard to get the concentration.

    "We need to improve a lot [to get in top four]. It's not tactical or physical it's our mentality."

    He's been awful for us this season, but he was injured for absolutely ages and we don't have much of a choice.
    It's either that or run Dier into the ground and kill his confidence, which was what happened this week.
    Naughton's supposed to be close to a return though and Walker's about a month from training or something, so it might not come to that.
    I'd go with the Romanian against Brighton.

    I think that he missed a word there, but this has been our problem for years. How to fix it?

    Give Ledley bionic knee caps and send him back out there to marshall the defence?

    Pochettino it seems was flattered at Southampton. He inherited a very good squad of players there, who were hungry for success. Just look at Southamptons current league position and results,. all in the absence of Pochettino.

    Should we be asking:-

    Has Pochettino shown any evidence of being any better then AVB so far this season ?.
    Ans=Hardly.

    Despite having a full squad of fit players to choose from (except Walker). Has Pochettino made the right moves in order to significantly influence EPL games ?.
    Ans=Almost none.

    Have we gone and found another unsuitable manager ?.
    Ans=I sincerely hope not.

    However, I'd say, Poch is guaranteed a full season to prove his worthiness for this role. Thereafter it might be a case of some serious egg from face removing.

    Maybe you're right but the only way we can find out, IMO, is to drop him and start playing him as a sub for Eriksen either late in games or when Eriksen's having one of his off days. But I don't like to think of where the invention is going to come from if Eriksen doesn't start - I end up finding myself hoping that Lennon puts in a performance like we've not seen since 2010 or Townsend has a game where he can get at least 15 shots in (to give good odds of one going in) or Chadli does the only proven thing he can do - curl the ball in from the left now and again. Oh yeah - and the defense plays well enough that only one or two goals will do.

    I need to go back to bed.

    To be fair to him, we've also had Naughton injured and banned for a game, which has resulted in having to play an inexperienced centre-half at right-back in every game.
    That certainly hasn't helped, but it's far from the full extent of our problems.

    He was very, very slow to do anything in the second half today, which cost us the match.
    He needs to address things about the team, but he also needs to address that in himself.
