Driving up on the Friday and staying over at the Holiday Inn on the Ferensway (£50 inc breakfast for 2, so not bad) for the Southampton game, I obviously know my way around town, but have no idea where is decent to eat, I'm not fussed what I eat as long as it's good so: Fish and Chips, Italian, Curry whatever, would be nice not to walk miles to get there too. Any suggestions?

Also a decent pub too, without being too young and loud <cheers>

    Cheers in advance, UTT!

Princes Ave is a good shout and only 5 minutes drive from Ferensway.

Its only a 15-20 min walk max down Springbankistan. It would be a good walk to see the changes and the shops are semi-interesting.

The ebeneezer morley, blah bar or cheese are the place to be.

Regarding food there's a fe Maccy D's dotted about, and some KFC's if you have a bit more dosh.

I isn't think people in Hull can afford Burger King, as I haven't seen one there.

You should also consider taking your own curry too.

Ray's was, is and always should be last dance, last chance in curry terms.

You sound like a cultured chap to me London Tiger, so I would recommend booking lunch at 1884 (3 courses for £16- but go online to book- best food in Hull and would cost you 3 times this for the equivalent in London) followed by a pint at the Minerva and then a taxi/bus down Anlaby Road. Alternatively, Stanleys bistro opposite the station does good fish and chips/pies etc and you can simply walk through St Stephens shopping centre and over the walkway to the KC. Finally, for a more traditional pre-match experience you could try the New Clarence near Hull New Theatre and watch the early kick off with a massive grill and a pint and walk through to the ground. All are nearer to your hotel then walking down Spring Bank to get to Princes Ave. Do the Princes Ave thing in Pave or Polar Bear etc after the game. This lot are obviously peasants judging by their recommendations :)

Well spotted Hove, I am a very cultured chap <cool> not like this raggedy old bunch <laugh> normally on here.
I think 1884 sounds the ticket as was going to spend most of the day in the centre and the old town, so not a huge traipse.

Cheers for all suggestions and Pinces AVe seemed a good call too, I can't remember it having all the food places back a few years.

4 pints of Old Peculiar in Ye Olde White Harte should do for lunch. Eating's cheating.

Do you mean on the Friday night London? Stanleys Brasserie corner of Paragon St/Ferensways supposed to be pretty good. Go in the pubs Hat suggested show your good lady the real Hull.

If its Satdee night, two meals?? spoiling her, if its Prinny Ave then id book a table gets pretty busy.

Depends where you want to be - I'd recommend...

    New town:
    Wokkas (great for a Chinese)
    Stanley's
Go Dutch Pancake House (they do a deal of a savoury pancake and a sweet pancake for £9 - both really good)
Handmade Burger Co. (if you fancy somewhere that's a chain, but half decent)

    Old town/marina:
    1884
    The Wilson
    The Old House
    Garbos

2 new places recently opened which seem to be getting good reviews:
    The Purple Pig
    &
    Riddler's Bar & Food

Kardomah94 seems to be getting a good reputation too - it's the cafe/restaurant to the new arts space on Alfred Gelder St (opposite the council offices next to Queens Gardens).

    Newland/Prinny/Chants Ave:
    Larkin's
    Zillis
    Lodge
    Sleepers
    Lucca
