Arsenal are lining up an £8 million move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. Arsene Wenger will make his bid as soon as he can shift the out-of-favour Manuel Almunia from the Emirates. Inter themselves have only just bought Viviano. They paid Bologna £3.8m for him following a co-ownership arrangement between the two clubs. The 25-year-old is set to be Julio Cesar's number two at the San Siro, so the opportunity to battle Wojcech Szczesny for a starting spot with the Gunners could appeal. Almunia was dropped by Wenger after several high-profile errors last season. The Arsenal boss had been under pressure to bring in a top class keeper even before those errors and supporters are again demanding an experienced stopper is brought to the club. The 6ft 5in Viviano is thought to be Wenger's budget-price back-up plan after being put off by the £20 million asking price for Lyon's Hugo Lloris.
I see Arsenal are not investing well in goalkeepers since ages .. VIVIANO is not better than the existing ones ..
Viviano stands more chance of replacing Julio Cesar than Szczesny, and the starter of this rumour has obviously forgotten Fabianski and Mannone. This story seems one year out of date!
there would be no point in buying him, as I think that he would be on the same level as Szczesny and Fabianski, and we would simply have 3 goalkeepers of equal level, with one (Szczesny) almost guaranteed to improve.
£8 million for a back up keeper is hardly bargin bucket. We could get someone like Sorenson, Schwarzer etc for a lot cheaper...
And thats why I hope the story is complete BS. Wasting £8 million on a keeper no better than the reserves we already have is hardly inspiring.
