I think we will finish above Spurs, Liverpool and Everton. The only doubt I have is Man Utd. If it weren't for the fact they are a bit hit and miss I would say they will definitely finish above us so I'll leave them as a maybe :)

I can't see Liverpool being so lucky to pull out a win as they did at the weekend and they will not drop Gerrard so they will keep conceding with no protection in front of their defence. Also got to factor in that the referees are going to crack down on the penalty area grappling so Skrtl is going to concede 2 penalties a game from now on.

I can think of funnier. In fact, hilarious. <laugh>

    Saints
    Chelsea
    Man City
    Man Utd

On Saturday, the Barclays PL commentator was making an observation about how good Toby Alderweireld was doing during the match. He said that Toby had won 4 league titles in the last 4 seasons. He finished this appraisal by saying something along the lines that... it would be highly significant within the annuls of English football history if he were to make it 5 from 5.

That's not quite the words he used, but near enough. Brian Little, his summariser, gave a knowing chuckle. I liked it too. :)

The top 4 is wide open this season after Chelsea and City (who I think will be well clear and in a 2 horse race after xmas). Arsenal are the best of the rest but the 4th spot is up for grabs IMO and could all depend on who has the best January transfer window.
Saints fans shouldn't fear injuries so much this season, although a long term injury to Tadic would be very harmful. we have good back up for all positions with the option of an instant recall for Boruc and possibly a new back up keeper in January.
I can see Chelsea and City reaching 90 pts, Arsenal 70-80 pts and next few clubs around 60 and 70 pts, why can't one of those clubs be Saints?, we are stronger overall than last season and I believe have a better Manager and coaching staff.

True, but it didn't spoil the moment, because we're realistic too. :)

Can I just say that, before a ball was kicked in competition this season, I said something along the lines of... I will be disappointed if Saints don't do better than last season's position. Anyone who is dead keen, and doesn't have a life, can go and find it. Should only take about a couple of hours. I know I wrote it. I may have even said top 6. :)

Well, I'm a pessimist and a long-time supporter who is more used to things going wrong than right. However, right now I am living the 'take each game as it comes' cliche.

At the start of the season, even though I never went for any of the 'meltdown' stuff, the highest I was hoping for was a repeat of last year. But with each result I keep revising it upwards. I keep thinking that the next game is the critical one, win that and who knows what might happen.

So basically, all we have to do is beat Stoke. Then we concentrate on Hull and beat them. After, that its Leicester and then a tricky but winnable one at Villa. One game at a time.

But I think I'll stop there<whistle> (To save you looking it up, the next one is Man City).

I'm just sticking to my pre-season prediction.

And anyway, we're still a bit short in the squad to really attack the top clubs.

Man City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, Liverpool are all more than plausable bets to finish above us but which two other teams do you think will finish above us?

Out of that list i believe we'll be ahead of Everton and possibly Spurs this season but cant put any other club (maybe WHU although its early to say) anywhere near our squad strength.

We have a £20m rated England International Striker (who scored 15 goals from open play last season) and a hot prospect England U21 midfielder to come back without having to spend a penny.
When you consider that virtually every position in the team has International quality back up it's hard to imagine where exactly we need to strengthen at this point....Maybe a back up GK and CB, we have NEVER had as much strength in depth in midfield and attack.

In the conventional sense of adding to the present squad, I agree with you. But there's always room for improvement. However, it would have to be on the basis of finding the weakest player in a very strong first eleven and demoting him/them while upgrading that position to something better than we have currently throughout. Then moving to the next weakest and so on. Eventually you get Real Madrid on the South Coast. Very costly indeed.

Just imagine NONE of the current squad being good enough to get anywhere near consideration for playing for Southampton. Phew..! That team's a world beater. :)
