I'm a liverpool supporter but could not help myself by taking the 5/1 ronaldo to score more than 2 and Madrid to win W/Hill's
Morning guys with regard to gosden at the moment be very carerful yard aren't firing and I have a mate who's in with the yard and even they are surprised at the horses form With regard to assagher they say needs the run but will improve GL if you play today
Chicken salad baguette, packet of hula hoops and a banana all washed down with a bucket of water. 7/10. Fascinating to read old boy Tom Segal, in ‘The Weekender’, just now re this season’s staying chasers. He said that the established brigade look weak, last season’s novices dire and as a result it wouldn’t surprise him to see the field for next March’s CGC comprising many novice chasers as they will have a decent chance against a very, very poor lot who couldn’t hold a candle to the likes of Denman, Kauto, Imperial Commander and Long Run. Certainly a point to ponder, methinks, if you like something for the RSA/Jewsons. Could the lack of any creditable staying chasers lure novices into the CGC?!?
Something I've been pondering myself over recent weeks Sir Barney, more immediately in trying to find a likely second-season chaser type for the Hennessy but also extrapolating that to the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Very little in there to set the old pulse racing at the moment. We were clearly spoiled to death with Kauto & Denman ...............
Who was the last novice to run well in a Cheltenham Gold Cup? I don't see this happening because of the three novice chases at the festival, and the fact that trainers like to wrap their stars in cotton wool. Even with a mediocre field (which I don't necessarily agree with) I don't see anyone sending their star novice unless it has run quite a few times over fences previously (which they seldom do). I think we will be looking at last seasons field and a few of the second season chasers that will make the step up to that race . In regards of handicap marks Oddy, take a look at last seasons Old Roan, Conquisto a second season novice ran off 150 and won the race. I think the form of Uxizandre is far better than his novice runs, and he has a mark of 158. On the form shown as a novice, I think that is lenient in comparison.
The best novice I ever saw run in a CGC didn't get to the other end. Very sad and I wouldn't want to see that happen again.
Have to put up my hand and make an admission here. Decades ago, when still a youngish man living in Brisbane, a bunch of hurdlers came North to give the locals a look at what jumping was all about. They brought up a bunch of scrubbers who had little trouble clearing the small brush obstacles. They drew a massive crowd. I made sure I was one of the first to grab a good position in the stands for the spectacle. I loved every minute of it. It's the only jump race I've actually seen. So if I take the piss here, I can assure all and sundry, it's just tongue in cheek.
As soon as I backed that horse on Betfair I knew it was beaten. Cannot remember the last time I backed a winner on that place!
Hard to say, but possibly the 1974 winner Captain Christy, who, although a 7-y-o, really wasn't much more than a novice. Had a very bad habit of falling at the last prior to winning this but, this time, jockey Bobby Beasley would have none of these shenanigans and 'made' him jump the last.
Impressive from Pamona, dont think Wardat Dubai handled the ground, didnt travel or respond like she did first time out, the winners dam won a Group 3 on soft and it was all very laboured from the rest. Estikhraaj a non runner as well, hope they find a race for him before the season is over, Imperial Link probs tailed off.
I remember Dorans Pride finishing third as a novice in the 90's. Also recall Tim Forsters Drumadowney leading for most of way before fading to finish fourth or fifth in a CGC in the early/mid 80's. Anymore for anymore? I agree that the vast portfolio of novice 'chases at the Festival afford too many options for first season fencers. It should also be remembered that the Henderson,Nicholls ,Mullins and O'Neill yards are strong supporters of the RSA 'Chase and be unlikely to skip that event to target the Gold Cup with their top novices.
The maiden form is a nightmare to get a handle on sometimes, the 3rd and 5th from Pamonas maiden have been beaten at Kempton and Wolves next time, you would think that the disappointing run of Wardat Dubai there is a knock for Legends Gate form tonight, while Spanish Squeeze is coming out of a maiden that has produced a few decent winners. Problem is, majority of them are moving backwards and forwards from run to run while the others stand still and good luck anticipating the movements.
Great idea .. but if we can drum up enough cash I will be @ BOD ... I guess I could then bid up the price to thwart the man himdelf .. who will undoubtedly be biding with the ill-gotten tote place cash he has been saving .... any donations ???
You must be using the secret equation that 'average = darn right s**te' here aren't you?! Real Madrid 10/11 is surely the bet of the season (as I'm a Liverpool fan I won't be backing it mind!)...
The Ballydoyle 'team' for the Racing Post Trophy has changed completely THE market for Saturday's Group 1 Racing Post Trophy was shaken up on Wednesday afternoon when Aidan O'Brien revealed his runners at Doncaster will not be the two identified on the weekend. O'Brien had said on Sunday that he expected either Royal Navy Ship or Giovanni Canaletto to represent him as he attempts to win the race for an eighth time, but that pair now look set to stay in Ireland for alternative engagements on Sunday. Instead, Jacobean, second behind Royal Navy Ship in a Curragh maiden, and Newmarket maiden winner Aloft could form the Ballydoyle challenge. O'Brien told the Racing Post on Wednesday: "It now looks as if we will be represented by Aloft and/or Jacobean in the Racing Post Trophy and that Royal Navy Ship and Giovanni Canaletto will go to Leopardstown at the weekend instead." Royal Navy Ship had been 5-2 joint-favourite with both Boylesports and Ladbrokes for the race with Giovanni Canaletto as short as 7-1 with Coral. While Jacobean could have been backed at 8-1 on Wednesday morning and Aloft at 25-1, the pair were trading at 7-2 and 10-1 respectively after the news broke.
