I'm sure I went to both the wins. I seem to recall under Dolan we broke an 11 match run without a win by getting the points at Feethams.
I remember one game at Feethams 97/98 ish which was a goal-fest. Might have been 4-3 to them or something similar. Also remember Brabin scoring the winner in a night game 1-0 might have been our great escape season. That might have also been the time they had Olivier Bernard on loan from Newcastle. This is a stream of consciousness post......
First went to Feethams for a night game in the early 80s when Pete Skipper was playing for Darlo and David Speedie was their star turn - obviously we lost. The other one that stands out was a game around Christmas time, bloody freezing, when we were in a stand down the side of the pitch and the floodlights went out for a while - unfortunately they came back on again....think it finished 0-0.
Sorry BMB I missed that list. I just mentioned the Baseball Ground to get things going. Needn't have bothered! Of course I remember Feethams when I was an apprentice in Darlington and also Filbert Street (Leicester City) when I was working in Derby in the Clough/Taylor days as I had a season ticket at the Baseball Ground when we would pop over to Leicester and Forest for the "derby" games.
That game at Darlington featured the last ever double decker as a City lads away mode of transport, took all night to get home.
I wished death on Darlo after they poached some of our players (admittedly s**te ones but they were all ****e back then) in a dire dire time. A few years later, they truly faced the ‘meat grinder’ - to use the parlance of our times. Some people must have short memories, been too young or not have been there because the hardcore City support at the time f**ing despised Darlo for what they did.
Been to Darlo a few times. Best one I recall was an FA Cup match 1992-93. We won 2-1. Was getting coined and flegged on as just a fence separated the fans. No doubt City were dishing it back. Great atmosphere though. A few years later, it was also the first game I ever got asked (told) not to smoke by the stewards (way before the smoking ban).
Leads Road Huddersfield ? Biggest covered terracing in the FL down one side. Millmoor, Rotherham, great away end. Old Show Ground, Scunthorpe, good away end. Burden Park Bolton. City made history by invading the pitch, a FL first. Seamer Road, Scarbourgh. Victoria Ground Stoke @ Filbert Street Leicester ( I know they've been covered) Vetch Field, Swansea, Nininian Park, Cardiff. Seamer Road, Chester ? Gay Meadow, Shrewsbury. ( have they moved ?) Layer Road? Colchester? Roker Park, Sunderland. Ayresome Park, Boro, an evil place, The Den, Millwall. The Dell, Southampton. ........off the top of my head, all grounds we have played at and have now gone. I'm sure there's loads more.
Here's a 2015 update to this thread. Plenty listed already but still worth a butcher's... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Park-look-memorable-stadiums-used-today.html I never realised Roker Park ended up with a capacity of only 22,500. Seems odd for a club I've always thought of pulling in 40,000 plus.
They hadn't had 40,000 crowds for some time. Though their crowds held up well in div 2 and a season in div 3 compared to some others. Have a look at the link. Some surprising figures. For example Manchester City only had an average of 40,000 twice, and then only just, at Maine Road a ground which held over 80,000. In fact only 13 clubs have averaged 40,000 or over. Some of only once or twice. A couple you wouldn't immediately think of, one ofbthem not at all. And, the Champions Of Europe in the West Riding aren't one of the ones to do it. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn.htm
