Right... So the other day I told you about a new project - spearheaded by Chris Rann (of Metro and GeorgeWeahsCousin fame) and his colleague Dan Van Cuylenburg. After a pilot episode, I was invited onto the first episode - and decided to go for it. Anyway, they've tried not to make it too long, I know many podcasts are an hour long - but this is just 35 minutes. Episode One: Greight Expectations Discussed are: Sunderland, Tadić, Stoke (both games), Steven Davis's new deal, James Ward-Prowse's Q&A and much more... Also contains some little features like 'Latter Day Saints', Saints fans and their single-tweet match reviews, and Chris' Big Question. Anyway, what we're asking for really is for you to give it a listen - and let us know what you think. Ideas for the future, what needs refining, what was good, what wasn't so good - all of that! Bit pushed for time today, but I gave it 5 minutes anyway. Laughable view, in my opinion, that Steven Davis would be snapped up by a top club in two or three seasons, especially as he has just extended his contract with Saints and wants to stay. Plus he's 29. I can see him leaving for Rangers when he's around 33, but nobody better than Saints will come in for him in the meantime. He's too unsung a hero player for that to happen.
Yeah, we've had a bit of feedback on Dan which hasn't exactly showered him in praise just yet. Appreciate you tuning in for a few minutes, hopefully you'll get a chance to give the rest a go at a later date - let me know!
I had a listen to the pilot podcast as I subscribe to Chris' blog. The first edition of anything often bears little resemblance to how it develops, but that said I think either Dan needs to quickly inject some energy and insight into what he says or he should just let someone else accompany Chris. Whether or not the facts back them up, nobody wants to listen to someone who sounds like they're just coming round slowly from major surgery on a day when depression has already hit them hard. Otherwise, plenty of ideas in there to make it a worthwhile subscription in future. I look defin8ly forward to hearing this one. EDIT: Mmm, listening now. Sullen, negative, incommunicative. Even I have better football analysis, and my football analysis is ****e.
Having listened to the whole podcast, Dan is a miserable git...shame because Chris tries to move things along in an entertaining and positive way but its constantly dragged back by his dower co-presentor.
Have to agree with everyone else Chris needs a new right hand man. I found it very hard to listen to as Dan was so unresponsive to the questions. Lucky I touched something by mistake on my screen and was whisked away to somewhere else so was saved from hearing it all. You sounded OK maybe you could take Dan's place?
Thanks for all the feedback. Very much a work in progress, hopefully we can improve in all areas as we go along! Chris
Listened to most of the episode. Think it has all been said. Just a couple of points. Do you rehearse the episode through..? Do you play the episode through afterwards, looking to redo areas that haven't worked..? I don't think Dan works at all. If you are going to be a couple, with an occasional guest, then you need someone who will willingly bounce your view back, or an alternative one. Otherwise you're probably better off doing a solo spot, but that's a lot for half an hour. Sorry to be so damning. One positive - Chris is enthusiastic and reasonably clear.
Sums it up. I'll also point out another positive in the coverage of all aspects of saints. A lot of podcasts get too caught up in the most recent match or transfer etc but its good to hear some chat about the wristbands and other things.
I checked out the first episode and enjoyed it for the most part. As mentioned above, I wasn't sold on Dan at all. He didn't seem to show any enthusiasm, he didn't add any points of note in my opinion, he didn't show that he had researched or prepared in any way and sounded largely disinterested. This posed as a stark contrast to both Connor and especially Chris who were informative and articulate. I thought it was a great effort for a first episode and I'm sure it will only get better, will definitely listen in again.
Yes, Dan would be well advised to listen to a few episodes of "The True Geordie" to learn how passion and confidence sounds: even if he doesn't try and emulate the accent or include so many swear words he would at least sound interested.
I'll listen tomorrow, but Dan is probably just down because he's not the same without Joe and he misses posting on here
I had a listen last night and enjoyed it on the whole. Volume levels could be better, it was very hard to hear Dan. As mentioned above Dan could be a bit more enthusatic and knowledgeable on Saints and football in general. The first section around JWP and he couldnt guess the Man Utd was cringeable. I would listen again if volumes were sorted.
