I see Puffin Billy back out tomorrow, glad to see him back from career/life threatening injury last year. And making his chase debut aswell. Far west looks like he will be a much better casher and he certainly wasn't a bad hurdler at all but Puffin Billy could be very good indeed
Also how many horses has Nicholls lost this year?? Edgardo Sol, Cedre Bleu and Kauto Stone have all moved yards to IMO much smaller yards Emma Lavelle, Charlie Mann and Ben Paulingrespectively and who is Ben Pauling btw but he lost some fairly decent horses
Disagree. They have shipped out horses and replaced them with younger horses. Take Edgardo Sol, they obviously didn't like the way he performed over fences so switched him back to handicap hurdles but found that he was too highly handicapped to be competitive in the races he had to run in (due to high mark). Better to ship him out and let someone else have a go with him, rather than wait for his mark to drop (owned by an Axom syndicate like Far West today). Cedre Bleu is a bridle horse who they struggled with despite his major talent, struggling to win makes him hard to keep hold of when you have new horses. Kauto Stone is another who has struggled despite his talent, and they struggle to find the right race for him. Pauling was Mr Henderson's assistant for quite a while, and I know Stick thinks highly of him as one to watch. The race of the day for me is that beginners chase, I hope we see some fluent jumping from the three at the head of the market, and I would love to see Puffin Billy back to his best, and if he was I think he will take a lot of beating. Far West is a nice horse who I thought would make a mark over fences whilst Dunraven Storm is a notebook horse who might be a bit old for all of this. Good race.
Those ex Mr Nicholls horses listed have all been sold by their former owners over the summer. The careers of all 3 animals, in my opinion, were in decline so connections took the decision to cash in and move them on. It’s not a case of a slight on Mr Nicholls at all. This happens every summer in every jumping yard in the country. Those no longer deemed good enough are moved on and new stock brought in. Ben Pauling is Mr Henderson’s former assistant. I see his ‘Ben Pauling Racing’ paid 44,000 gns for Kauto Stone. Good investment, people???
Cor blimey. Snap, Nassau. Pressed submit and see you’ve typed pretty much similar a minute before! In that beginners chase those bookie chappies ain’t giving much away! 3 horses priced 5/2 (9/4 in places) or shorter.
I had Far West in my 5 to follow last season in the belief he would be going novice chasing a year ago. They elected (unwisely IMHO) to keep him over hurdles for a further year, whereas I would've had him schooled over fences immediately after his defeat by Melodic Rendezvous last November. Always looked to have the frame for chasing and I hope he can get off to a good start today. As always with these novice chases though, the main thing will be for them all to get round unscathed.
Ben Pauling is also Charlie Longsdons brother in law. Like all the ex Seven Barrows assistant trainers he has learnt his trade well and is definitely one to watch. Excellent strike rate so far and will defintely go from strength to strength. We are a little spoilt for good young trainers right now with Longsdon, Skelton, Fry, Honeyball and Keighley all plying their trade to good effect. I wonder if Jonjo retired who would take over at Jackdaws.....
I wonder if i bought one of the lovely horses Ms Curtis has for sale how easy it might be to syndicate it?
Beef stew and dumplings. 9/10. Pilgrims, pilgrims, pilgrims. It doesn’t take much to be classed as a promising young trainer. The ‘proof of the pudding’, as they say, is then taking it to the next level and consistently striking at the old ‘top table’ season in, season out. For every 2 dozen of the former you will get 1 of the latter. The likes of Mr Henderson and Mr Nicholls do not grow on trees, you know...
How difficult is it to say "at one o'clock"? I reckon 99 out of 100, regardless of age group could get that right. So why does the only one that can't manage it have to be on ATR TV? His effort was "at a one o'clock". So which one o'clock would that be? The superfluous "a" does annoy me. As in eg "He was third in the a Gold Cup". I'm sure we were taught at school to distinguish between the definite and indefinite article. I think this started with Americans trying to sound cool and it's catching. It is so refreshing when commentators/announcers can string a sentence together.
If this is all you have to worry about then you are doing well. I think the proliferation of luminous silks is much more concerning.
Bondi Beach Babe - 3.50 11/2 - Ran a good race last week after a tardy start, get away better and this race should be in the bag off a mark of 51
