Following on from my Matt Phillips thread Dave Thomas or Andy Sinton or Martin Rowlands then ? For me the last 35 minutes of any game and Andy Sinton came to life. Not sure why he had to wait though I though he was the most consistent Are Dave Thomas or Andy Sinton or swp the only wingers we have had who have ever played for England I can't remember whether I ever saw the Morgan twins By the way if you google "morgan twins" they've aged well
Dave Thomas was the best winger I've ever seen for Rangers....socks down hugging the touch line, get to the goal line and cross it...real old fashioned winger. I did see the Morgan twins play, but a bit vague about them i'm afraid....it was a very long time ago!!!!!!!!
I saw the Morgan twins and they were rapid.. Roger was probably the better of the two.. they had a terrific work rate but I suspect that was down to them playing half a game each without having to use the substitution..
Me too back in my youth in that era - what a great pair of wingers....wearing nice hooped shirts too! please log in to view this image Twin brothers Roger & Ian Morgan pose for the cameras during a photo-shoot, circa late 1960s, during their Queens Park Rangers days. Hand signed by both at a private signing session. http://www.a1sportingmemorabilia.co.uk/roger-and-ian-morgan-hand-signed-qpr-photo.html Roger and Ian Morgan are the twins in question. Ian made his QPR debut v Hull in September 1964, and Roger's first game for the R's came a week later v Gillingham. The twins were so identical that manager Alec Stock asked them to have different haircuts so he could tell them apart. The brothers were both wingers and were part of the side that achieved back-to-back promotions to the top flight. Roger, above, holds the distinction of having scored QPR's first ever goal at Wembley. It came in the League Cup final of 1967 when the R's came from 2-0 down at half time to beat West Brom 3-2 with further goals from Rodney Marsh and Mark Lazarus. Roger was sold to Tottenham in 1969 but Ian never moved to White Hart Lane. He switched to Watford in 1973. http://web.orange.co.uk/article/gaffer/qpr-twin-bros
For me Dave Thomas was the best with Andy Sinton in second place. I also have a soft spot for the man who scored our equaliser in the '82 replay. Gary Micklewhite had the heart of Ainsworth or Rowlands with more than twice the ability.
Dave Thomas was easily better than Andy Sinton imo: much better at taking men on. As for the Morgans, I saw them play many times. Roger was much, much better than Ian and had a knack for scoring goals (44 in 206 appearances). If I recall correctly (it WAS a long time ago), Ian was more of an inside forward whereas Roger was definitely an out and out winger who posed more of a goal threat, albeit mostly in the lower divisions, than either Sinton or Thomas When I chose my all time QPR team for the QPR programme a few seasons back, I chose Roger Morgan over Dave Thomas but I think that may have been through rose-tinted spectacles.
Dave Thomas finest winger we ever had by a country mile, speed, agility, could put the ball on a sixpence, scored plenty of goals, fantastic athlete....no contest. Sinton was good but not in DT's league. The 66/67 side also had Mark Lazarus on the other wing from Roger Morgan......
What I loved about Dave Thomas was his ability to actually run along they line with the ball. I have never seen anyone else do that. Mind you, I was only a kid but that is how I remember him most.
Having watched QPR since 1958 I would have to go: 1. Dave Thomas 2. Andy Sinton 3. Roger Morgan 4. Trevor Sinclair 5. Mark Lazarus always thought Andy Impey was useful too..
Old fatty boy Taarabt wasn't too bad either wide left was he? Running with the ball Taarabt has to be up there Pass against Coventry to Routledge was amazing
Yes it was, he laid that pass on a dime - I wish we could have hung onto him - his goal at Reading too was an important one too. The pair of them were playmakers & goal scorers.
I had a long list prepared ... but then I realised that I had misread the OP. I thought that it said "Whingers". There are loads of those.
Sinton my all time favourite R. Thomas was before my time but judging by old clips he was class and have to be the best winger we've had. Good to see Impey get a shout, very underrated winger. Could be a nightmare to play against. How he didn't get an England cap in his pomp is hard to understand. Stuart Ripley managed two in that era ffs!
Here's a story about the Morgan twins, I was 7 and waited after we beat Gillingham 3-2 in 1967 for some autographs, out came one Morgan I can't remember which, I asked for an autograph, "you don't want me", he said "its my brother who you want" and rushed off, leaving me upset and my dad (RIP) angry. The second one came out and clearly as rehearsed as the twin said "you don't want me it's my brother you want" and tried to rush off, I say tried cause my dad grabbed him, pinned him against the wall and said, the boy wants an autograph. I got an autograph that day.
