The article doesn't state it but obviously Defoe is coming home to write a book and needs a club that will allow him to skip training each week to write his book. Were specials to snare him cause only Harry will let him miss training, not to mention set up media appointments for his book tour. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/737780920?-294:802
He returned from 9 weeks injured to play 90 mins for Toronto FC against Houston Dynamo last night in a vital game must win game to gain a playoff birth. TFC lost 1-0 and Defoe missed a penalty - he looked fit and sharp, but despite numerous good goal scoring opportunities he just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. His movement off the ball was good, playing just off the shoulder of the last man looking for a through ball to run onto. The penalty resulted in a red card for Houston so TFC played last 37 min against 10 men and still couldn't score. For a look at Defoe, here are the match highlights - on the Houston goal, like our Rio, the TFC CB Nick Hagglund was out muscled off the ball. Don't like the idea of him coming so long as he has a day off to write his book each week, but there is nothing in the article about the book. We need players who are 100% focused on giving their all for QPR, and he could come with the aim of making the final chapter of his book a cracker!
I think Defoe has 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 really good seasons in him still, would be a great buy IMO if we got him in Jan, let's just hope we are not cut adrift from the pack by then! One problem is that if HR gets the boot then I doubt he will come to us.
His recovery from 9 weeks of injury only lasted three games for Toronto FC:- Today's game is currently tied 1-1, Toronto FC have to win to keep their feint playoff hopes alive. I fear this might be a similar situation for us if we did sign him in January. Jermain Defoe adds to depleted Toronto FC lineup vs. Montreal Impact please log in to view this image Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe won't play Saturday against the visiting Montreal Impact after aggravating a groin injury. He has already missed 13 games this season due to injury or suspension. Toronto FC fans may have seen the last of Jermain Defoe. The 32-year-old England striker has aggravated a groin injury and will miss Saturday's home finale against the Montreal Impact (2 p.m. ET). His status for the season finale in New England is up in the air, as is his future in Major League Soccer given the speculation over his status at the end of the last transfer window. Defoe insists he is happy in Toronto. But he has not looked beyond this season, saying he can't predict the future. The door to the rest of the soccer world swings opens again in January. 'Once it inflames, it is a debilitating injury. ... Some players will end up in surgery and some players will miss a full season.' - Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney on Jermain Defoe's groin ailment Toronto coach Greg Vanney has sympathy for Defoe's physical woes, having suffered a similar injury (osteitis pubis) while playing in France. "Once it inflames, it is a debilitating injury," Vanney said after practice Friday. "And it takes months to heal. Some players will end up in surgery and some players will miss a full season. If it's anything similar to that, then I understand his plight. "Aside from that. I think he's a true professional. And at the end of the day, he doesn't feel 100 per cent, he doesn't feel he can give what he's capable of giving and therefore he needs to get right." Defoe has played in the last three games since missing nine of the 10 previous matches due to the groin injury. He looked like his range-finder was off, missing a penalty and lacking sharpness. "I think between the groin injury and the migration of the pain and the inflammation, they're not exactly sure what it is," Vanney said of the injury. "Either way it's going to take him some time to really get over it."
If we're pinning all our hopes on a crocked has-been we're f*cked. Wait a minute, how many crocked has-beens have we got?...
He's injured too much and he's getting on. Most of our many buys of this type the last few seasons have been disasters. We should keep away.
Shirley and today's how da føkk did we lose that, tell me the laws of averages are never on our side.
I cannot disagree. We score 4. They score 1. We lose by 1 ....................... yep, that makes sense!
