Didn't say i didn't like it mate, I just don't think it matches up to this.
Having grew up watching Henry Fonda as a good guy just couldn't get my head around him being really bad.
As for the close ups, Cardinale only had two facial expressions, sexy and surprised! hahaha

Long time western fan, but out of them all The Searchers head and shoulders above the rest. One that was also impressive was Man in the Wilderness (Richard Harris) based on a true event. A bit like A Man Called Horse, but much grittier. Back in the B&W days Red River was another Wayne goodun.

Aye Fonda kind of revelled in the fact that people would be shocked at him playing a baddie. Mind, he did it well, I love the way he creeps around in his dark clad clothes.

Harmonica Man sorts him out though

I must have led a sheltered life, because I hadn't seen blood spilt like that at the cinema so I guess it stuck with me.

I am still not a great film buff, my missus goes daft with me because I get to the cinema and fall asleep. <doh>

Anyone ever seen Open Range with Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner? Very good movie, maybe not great, but many consider the epic final shootout the greatest ever. Worth a look.

Once upon a time in the west.

The opening scenes are just awesome:

    We've not brought enough horses

Seems to me you brought two too many

    <laugh> Nice one.

Spaghetti Westerns - I find them unwatchable.

Many "great" Westerns have been made down the years, but impossible to say which is the greatest.

    Some of my favourites,not in any special order would be;

    "The Missing",Tommy Lee Jones,Cate Blanchet.
    "The Gunfighter",Gregory Peck.
    "The Searchers","Stagecoach",both John Wayne.
    "3.10 to Yuma",Glenn Ford,Van Heflin.
    "Hombre",Paul Newman.
"Ride the high country",Randolph Scott,Joel McCrea.
    "Dodge City",Errol Flynn.
    "The Big Country",Peck again.
    "Tombstone",Val Kilmer,from memory.
    "Gunfight at the O.K Corral",Burt Lancaster,Kirk Douglas.

That's ten to get your teeth into. Actually,it's eleven.
