The Newcastle match is delayed because the stadium is collapsing around them They've had THREE weeks to get the ground ready for their home match and ****ed it up. Supporters being kept outside the ground while they get the gaffa tape out
Really? It's a cathedral right in the middle of the city don't you know? http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-art...stle-united-supporters-trust-nust-initiative/
Seems they've tried to screw a big screen onto the sheet metal roof over the international break but the safety inspector is having none of it.
Am I missing summate here Bri? "It means St.James’ Park can’t be sold without the local community being told about it, and them being given the opportunity to bid for it themselves." The stadium is on council land, the stadium has been altered as much as is possible & obviously can't be moved. How the hell can 'the local community' bid for the ground ffs? This 'listing' only lasts for 5 years anyway so it's actually just more attention seeking nonsense.
It's a load of bollocks as far as can see marra. What's the point of owning a building if you don't own the land. It's like buying a flat init
I've mentioned on a couple of threads now to you Smug that the Council haven't owned any of that land for over 20 years now. It is owned by the club. That is why Mike Ashley has been trying to sell off some of the land and why the NUST sought this ruling. The 5 years will hopefully be enough to stop him selling off any of the land altogether, but knowing Ashley he will find a way around it.
I really don't believe it is mate, I think it's owned by the city. From Bri's link above ...... "One of the positives we’ve always had as Newcastle fans is that whoever owns the club doesn’t also own the land, with the Freemen of the City retaining the title of the land." http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-art...stle-united-supporters-trust-nust-initiative/
The screen in question seems to have come loose, and is flowing in the wind. No fans allowed in due to the risk it is causing. Lot's of unhappy supporters around the ground, as everyone remains in the dark as to what is happening! Number 88
They own it as much as many of us own our house. They are able to sell the stadium, car parks and surrounding land, The freemen own the Town Moor which some of the land is still on, but the club owns the stadium on a leasehold basis as is true of much housing in England, and most city centre properties in most major cities. It is a saleable asset which Ashley had wanted to sell some of and now can't so easily. As far as the original topic is concerned I agree it is embarrassing. Hopefully it gets sorted. Just glad I'm working and not hanging around outside.
As I've said they can't sell the land on which the stadium sits because they don't own it. Not being pedantic but it's just a fact. If the club wanted to move they'd be obliged to demolish the ground, at their own expense, and return the land in decent order to the council.
Agree with you - or like owning a house on leasehold. My point was that it does make a difference having this restriction though as it stops Ashley selling off part of the land to be built on as he had planned to do.
I heard a Newcastle player was injured in the warm up, so could that have something to do with it ? or that fat supporter of thiers' blocked the entrance. And they had a month actually to put that screen up.
They don't own all of the buildings though Bri, Sir John Hall owns the Leazes end and rents it back to them for £6m per year
The ground is actually worthless .... the sale of fixtures & fittings would be a fraction of the demolition cost. If they ever move, as they've tried to do, the land purchase and construction would cripple them for years. That's why they're stuck there and have to pretend it's a national treasure. I hate to admit it but, with their support, etc, a modern 65,000 stadium could see them compete at the very top.
