We take it for granted, even some native English language countries struggle though. The yanks have bastardised it, and who knows just what the hell the jocks are saying. What of the none English language people, can't be easy, especially for Asians. On a slightly more serious note This map shows countries (in white) that England has never invaded. There are only 22 of them. please log in to view this image Know i know our fore fathers got around a bit, but if that map is correct, that is staggering. Surely it can't be right, can it?
Who's Toshi but the way? Lucky git....all that first rate **** lapping and good head to look forward to.
No point in having part of a set is there? might as well go on and do the lot eh? and as and when some more countries get their independence such as Scotland for instance, we can jump across the border, kick the sh^%e out of them and take over
Not sure but we did manage to take over a few 'hoods around the world, threaten a few countries into buying our gear etc. we were the original gang bangers on the block
Personally, the more i look at that map, the more i think it's wrong...Sure we invafed a massive part of the world, but that much? i have my doubts.
Can't be right, unless there is some weird interpretation of the word 'invaded'. South America? Colonized by the Portuguese, Spanish... Indonesia and the spice islands were taken by the Dutch. Denmark, Norway, Finland?
Found this on t'internet, we had a go at the Noggies and the Finns During the Crimean War, an allied Anglo-French fleet operated in the Baltic Sea, and this included UK forces making a number of small raids on the western coast of Finland. Also a fortress in the Aland archipelago was captured and destroyed. However, at the time Finland was not an independent country, but an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. UK also declared war on Finland in late 1941 (probably due to pressure from Stalin), but this did not lead to actual military operations, though a number of Finnish citizens abroad ended up getting interned for the duration of hostilities. As for Norway, the only UK military involvement I can think of was in spring 1940, but that was to oppose the German invasion of Norway. Invaded the US and burned the Whitehouse down on the way out in about 1812 The British invasions of the RÃo de la Plata in early 1800's, we invaded Argentina for one
Having a pop at the Russian duchy of Finland, or it's many islands (of which Aland is the largest and was only relatively recently designated to be Finnish, not Swedish) doesn't really constitute an invasion of Finalnd per se. Nor the Nordic/Danish stuff via the allied forces... The Finnish position was interesting if not tricky as they needed to keep the Ruskies out and not let the Germans in. manna rhenium did a gat job of marshaling that successfully and was good buddies with Winston. Worth a read, the bloke travelled, served in the Indo-Russian war, and then commander of the Finnish forces in the winter war vs. Russia. a national hero The rio de la Plata is worthy though. Forgot all about that. aalthough it was only a short-lived occupation it dissolved Spanish rule of the continent. I as reading a book called 'the challenge' about the British naval war of early 1800s against the US there's bits in there about this. Never finished the book, so a canny prompt to finish the book whilst I'm still on me hols. Read Vasco de Gama last summer, another cracking read about Portuguese colonization of Africa, India and Asia and the start of naval European imperialism.
I would take that map with a pinch of salt. It shows Malta. I'm sure we were invited to protect the Maltese against the French. It also shows Poland which has never been invaded by the British unless to take into account Krakow with stag weekends.
There are also places we've invaded to remove hostile occupiers such as France, Italy etc during WW2. Other places have been sold to us, like Corsica, and we've just moved in like you'd do with a country cottage
