West Ham and QPR in Abdoulay Konko battle as Lazio defender looks for January move

Tug-of-war: Abdoulay Konko of Lazio is wanted by both West Ham and QPR

West Ham and QPR are battling to sign Lazio defender Abdoulay Konko.

Both clubs are looking to buy another full-back when the transfer window reopens and have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old.

Konko has fallen out of favour with Lazio’s new head coach Stefano Pioli and reports in Italy suggest he could be heading for the Premier League.

Hammers manager Sam Allardyce is searching for another defender as loan signing Carl Jenkinson has been injured.

Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is in the market for a right-back as Mauricio Isla has failed to make any impact.

Rising star: Antonio Rudiger of Stuttgart

West Ham have also had their eye on Stuttgart centre-half Antonio Rudiger, 21.

The defender, recently fast-tracked into Germany's international squad, has been watched by Hammers scout George Dixon this season.

But they are one of several sides chasing the fast-rising Bundesliga star’s signature.

West Ham are identifying targets amid fears they will lose Winston Reid for nothing next summer.

Reid is demanding a pay rise to bring him in line with the club’s top-earners – but contract talks have reached a stalemate.

The New Zealand defender will not be short of interest as he could be snapped up on a Bosman free transfer.

All the latest Queens Park Rangers news including a transfer story involving Lazio player Abdoulay Konko and Adel Taarabt on his fitness.

The potential availability of Lazio right back Abdoulay Konko, a 30-year-old Frenchman, has reportedly piqued the interest of a hat-trick of English clubs including West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers.

According to Forza Italian Football, the three British clubs will duke it out for Konko when the transfer window reopens for trading in January.

Konko may be keen for a move as he has only been seldom used by manager Stefano Pioli. This, after making 21 starts in the Serie A - with 45 tackles and 76 clearances to his name - last season.

A bid of £1.5 million could be enough to secure Konko's services.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp was recently panned for claiming some of his players were fatigued, or short of match fitness, despite only being two months into the Premier League season.

For Adel Taarabt, lacking fitness should not be an issue as the winger believes he has benefited from the international break.

He said: "I have to work hard to get back in the team and help QPR win games.

"These two weeks for the international break will help me get to 100 per cent. I did not have a very good pre-season and I need games. Hopefully my ankle will be fine, it is not a big injury."

Why would you choose QPR over West Ham apart from the money and possible the West London thing?

I wish we could get players on £25k a week who wanted to be here and play for the badge. Lee Cook - what an example!!

    Sadly, a pipe dream.

Have you seen our badge? It's not what it's all cracked up to be.
Besides, there are books to write, deadlines to meet and book tours to mix in with media appointments ........... look at our manager, were dead last and he seems fine with it.
Fact is, all us fans are overreacting so lets just settle down and turn the other way and everything will be just dandy.

I have always felt it takes a good few months to adjust to the prem. That is even more relevant if they have played in a league that is played at a slow pace like Italy. I actually think Isla could be a very good player but needs time. He should never have been slung in at the deep end. I totally blame Harry for that and his stupidity for getting rid of Simpson as decent cover. Also the blind faith that 3 at the back would work, kinda shows a lack of forethought. It's a school boy error from someone that should know better.

3 t the back doesn't seem any worse than 4 at the back from what I've seen.

It's not the formation, its attitude, charcter and commitment we lack.

I totally agree that we lack commitment. That's why it doesn't matter what formation we play. I was just pointing out that after selling Simpson we were always gonna be relying on someone not up to speed with the perm in a formation that wasn't properly drilled because of a poor pre season. All calls made by Harry and his extended team. I was happy when we fist got Harry but I'm loosing faith rapidly and may have to eat my words in support for him.

Why did we sell Simpson, there really is no plan. I wonder how we will fix it. Maybe it would have been better to have stayed down and taken the time to build a team. I know a lot of people are blaming Harry but Tony has to take some of the blame to.

The problem is that Tony is not a football man, and if Harry and his team say that Simpson isn't adding value and should be replaced, Tony's highly likely to take the advice. For me, the criticism over this should be aimed at Harry. Overall, in the bigger picture, if Harry's failing, all eyes will turn on Tony - rightly so, particularly if we put in another spiritless performance on Sunday.

Partly agree goldie but I'd at least expect TF to know the basics of the bussiness he's heding up. From what i can see he has no idea what so ever.
We are just a promotional tool for Air Asia as far as i can see. i wonder if he as front man could name all 25 of our named players when put on the spot. 1st and 2nd names?mmmmmmmm?

I'm certain he could name the players Queens - that's part of the problem, he is too involved, over enthusiastic and star struck, desperate to please everyone all the time. His basic business philosophy is 'keep your employees happy, they will look after the customers'. It ain't working with us. I'd prefer it if he was more detached, clinical and ran this like a widget factory. A constant association with fiasco and failure is hardly going to do his Air Asia brand much good either.

The problem is I think he really is trying his hardest for the club and fans, and seems a genuinely nice and fun bloke, but he doesn't know what good looks like for QPR.

he knows what it looks like SB but getting there isn't an exact science sadly. That's why they'll be the usual 7 or 8 clubs scrapping to avoid relegation this year while they also run round trying to find the magical formula.

You are as usual mate, spot on. And yes, that probably is the problem

For me, he seems a genuinely nice bloke & the extra time he takes out to send messages to us Aussie supporters shows that. I just keep seeing him make the same mistakes over.
very frustrating. I said previously, that i wished he'd get off twitter & stop trying to be everyones best friend. We need a leader and someone who can make the hard decisions when need be. Just seems too nice to me <ok>
