This is just embarrassing, tries to be funny but misses by a mile. I love how whenever a Korean player is mentioned, the knuckle-draggers seem to think all they do is go around eating dogs (and that there is something wrong with that). <doh>

Looks a canny signing actually and seems pretty grounded in the interview he gave. <ok>

Sad thread and really glad it has been treated with the contempt it deserves.

It could be bacause I was brought up in Washington with half the family Newcastle fans and half Sunderland that I always get onn well with fans of all colours. Living in a split family and a split town makes you put things into prespective..

Please keep popinig in to see us.

It is a pitythat we can not post the same thread on both sites at the same time as we could on 606. Is it possible to have that facility added?

I popped over for a chat last night thinking they would be in a good mood with the signings and had a hard time of it. They were looking for anything to criticise and basically jumped on any perceived issue. I even got jumped on for asking whether they saw Gardner as a regular first team starter or as backup because I thought their midfield was strong enough that he wasn't guaranteed an immediate starting place. Some had a go for basically expressing more confidence in the strength of their midfield than they did!

But articles like this help create the paranoia that lead to farsical discussions like that. It would seem that the majority of the Mackem supporters don't trust our intentions.

There's a few idiots from both forums that make great debates between the two sets rare to come by.

Yeah that would be due to the unfunnyness and racism of your little article, as well as advertising.

We believe the good people of 606 are playing the racist card a little too easily here. Facts:

530 restaurants in Seoul alone specialise in dog

92% of Korean males eat dog on a regular basis

I actually have a little knowledge in this area and will be able to supply photos of markets, openly selling dog meat and full dead carcasses in Korea. But hey, the point you guys are making is that we're playing up to a stereotypical image of what the western world considers the truth. Well, maybe, but that may well be the definition of satire. Satire, by definition is never 100% true - of course it isn't!

The racist card is a lazy one. We are losing the right in this country to differentiate, analyse and criticise the beliefs, values and practices of other religions and civilisations. We have to have the right to criticise, and where necessary, caricature the acts of others - whether people are offended is irrelevant. Had we written an article about a black guy or a white guy or a south-east Asian guy, then yes, that would be totally unacceptable - but we didn't. I would accept, maybe, the accusation of the article in question being xenophobic - but not racist. The practice of dog eating is most widely enjoyed in Korea so that is what drives the 'story.'

In terms of the whole Sunderland thing, the club have been in the news more than others and that is due to their fantastic work in the transfer market. This makes them topical and the focus of stories. Once Newcastle do something interesting, it will be them we write about.

One last point. In many parts of Europe, the English are written off as thugs, hooligans and heavy drinkers. Many Europeans hold pre-conceived ideas about 'booze-Britain. They feel we are detached from Europe, we are cosy with the Americans and we are all fat. They group us together against a common sterotype. Are we all fat, American loving alcoholics with no appreciation of the arts and ignorant to the histories and cultures of other European countries? Of course we're not. Do we care that some Europeans hold this view - even if they are in the minority? Most of us don't! Are those Europeans racist? No, just ill-informed and prejudice. And here lies the crux of the issue and the paradox. This story is only funny to people that hold those stereotypes of what being Korean is all about. They are in the minority - so who is the article REALLY having a go at??

I'm sorry but I think the vast majority on here think that your articles are ****e and not funny in the slightest, regardless of how much knowledge they have on the Korean culture.

So it'd be fine if when a foreign club signs an English player for bloggers to post (eg)

    "REAL MARDID SIGN ENGLISH THUG

FANS WILL BE DELIGHTED TO HEAR THAT HOOLIGAN JONATHAN WOODGATE HAD SIGNED FROM NUFC, TEENAGE PREGNANCY IN THE AREA IS SET TO RISE ALONG WITH VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR AND DRUG ABUSE.

THE PLAYER HAS ALREADY STATED THAT HE WANTS TO BEAT UP THE LOCAL POPULATION AND REFUSES TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE, CLUB STAFF WILL BE PROVIDING HIM WITH VUNERABLE CHILDREN TO THROW BRICKS AT.

    lololol"

You've shown you can write properly and use reason so why don't you do it more often rather than taking a cheap joke and stretching it out over one massive page of fail?
