http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13992770.stm Part of it at least ^ Nice to see him opening up in discussion now and actually answering the question like every other manager, less of the cliche's too! Full interviews with Nigel and Rickie Lambert on Saints Player later.
it just shows the amount of bs the media makes up concerning transfer rumours, chamberlain has been set to join about 20 different clubs at 20 different moments in time according the daily fail etc
I know certain fans bang on about signings as soon as the season is over and i'm not much different. I'm a little surprised that we may only bring" a couple of players" in. I dont want us to sign for the sake of it but with Jaidi, seabourne, connolly, holmes all hit and miss with fitness/form and loanees going back and Gobern has left i feel a couple of players won't quite cut it to get us to where we want to be (top 10 imo).
I think we need 3 players this summer : a CB, CM and a striker. Cork and Maynard would be fantastic and cover two of those positions, the CB is probably one that Nigel is scouting intensively. Hard to say what we should do in January at this early stage, but we may need a winger on loan if/when Puncheon eventually f*cks off.
Could have kissed the screen when I saw Nigel on OS. We have missed our leader. Not too many Adkins-isms but early days.
i stress that he says only a couple (so 2) of signings, however lets not forget thats just this window - he may be very keen to let the squad as it is have a chance to prove themselves and who knows, in jan there may be more activity after he has seen who can step up and who cant.
But he also says later on in the interview... "The majority of deals in this transfer window are done towards the end of July and in August. The deals that are done earlier are probably done because Clubs are desperate to build a whole team, we have a whole team and we are just trying to hand pick one or two or three to enhance the group that we have got and make us better." Basically, don't think that we're going to sign 2 players and Nigel's gonna just stop looking for improvements.
could well have a point there lambden. as we all know - some of the best bargains are had near the end of the window once new signings have already been made and some quality players (particularly in teams in the league above) start to consider moving as their prospects are less encouraging and these days it seems alot more consider dropping down a division than they used to.
Interesting that he says he's annoyed at Goburn. Says SFC let Wootton go to make room for him and have spent considerable time getting Oscar fit again and offered him a good contract. Said Gobern has signed a contract at Huddersfield, but Saints were not even approached so will go to Tribunal. Interesting because we were all thinking that there wasn't really a place for him at Saints. Adkins looked annoyed as well, though otherwise in the interview he was his usual beaming self. Puncheon is training but not going on tour..no surprise there then.
He looks as excited for the new season as I am. I liked the way he turned the Riise rumour around to make it look like players are trying to get linked to Southampton. Also it looks clear that Puncheon is not here for much longer, no Leicestershire or Swiss trip for him!
Yeah, he seemed proper miffed. To be honest, I wasn't particularly upset at the loss. I could never quite put my finger on what kind of footballer he really was, and where his strengths lay. Plus, he spent way too much time in Ninety Degrees for my liking.
I think we only offered him a deal so that it would go to tribunal, otherwise he'd have gone to Huddersfield for nothing.
Puncheon staying with the youth team lol I think if we can sign Jack Cork, a centre back from overseas perhaps and Maynard, while keeping hold of AOC, that will be a very good summer for us. Not too many signings to upset the team spirit, but more than enough quality to challenge for a top 6 position
I have watched it and Nige does come across as a bit peed off but the club will get a good 250k out of offering him a deal.
Maybe. Although Brentford only received £125K for Dickson, with a further staggered £100K dependant on appearances etc. Dickson was a much more vital part of Brentford's side than Gobern was too.
