Chelsea Ladies play to win their first ever title against Man Citeh 2pm Sunday. Live on BTSport2 and BBC 5live. A win sees us Champions. About ten are professionals and this result could mean whether our international stars stay or if more players are offered pro contracts. Some of them have been at Chelsea since 12 or 13 years old. The ladies are as much Chelsea as any of our teams, they are part of the Roman Empire. Look at some of the BTsport 'A Day in the Life" videos online at YouTube or WSLFA and see how hard these women train and how dedicated they are and I mean for all the teams. This is no US football lingerie league.
Ooh, its tense now. Chelsea losing 1-0. Lost our keeper early on, sub keeper probably should have saved the shot that led to the goal. Luckily Birmingham are losing as well but Liverpool could snatch it away.
City & Birmingham overtake us in space of 2 mins. From 1st to 3rd for feck sakes. We play away and other 2 challengers play at home!! Clear advantage there.
Heartbreaker for the Girls, but they did the Club proud. Hope they get the accolades they deserve from the fans of both our mens and ladies teams.Time the Club raised their profile and made more supporters aware of just how good they are. What about it D Fer, any suggestions??
I think the league is getting good enough to grow bigger. Chelsea's aim was to bed in a new manager and eight new signings and not be as bad as they were in the previous season. Won nothing but a big big improvement. If we can keep hold of Ogimi and Ji and Chapman can go one more year we can only be better next season. Ji, Ogimi and Groenen bring a lot of foreign media attention to the WSL. They all have much bigger fan bases a than any English player. Aluko being on MOTD and the like has also helped a lot.
Having said all that we lost the title on GD and then by one goal. We lost Marie Hourihan, our 1st choice keeper after 15 minutes. A young girl came on as sub, she'd never played for the first team before, and City score not long after from her mistake. We should of outscored City and I don't know why our usual reserve keeper Endler (Chilean capt) wasn't on the bench. I did say on NOT606 a while ago I was baffled why we let England keeper Carly Telford go,who incidentally saved a penalty for Notts County against Birmingham which at that time kept us on top last Sunday........for a while. The Upshot is Chelsea Ladies had a season beyond expectation and will be playing in the Women's Champions League next season, coming in at the last 32 stage.
