You mean like some of the "debates" on here? Did you expect 2 hours of lively, cut and thrust debate - like a mix of Jeremy Kyle/Jerry Springer/Judge Rinder combined with PMQs, all councils are full of oldies with nothing better to do than stand for council, eg Terry whatisname or (before it gets too localised political), any council bloke you see on the news after flooding has happened in their town.
I expected it to be dull, but I didn't expect them to spend more time taking potshots at each other, than they did debating the topics, they need a kick up the arse.
East Riding Council backs Assem Allam motion but Hull City fans ask 'what does it mean?' East Riding councillors have voted unanimously to support a full council motion giving “every backing” to Hull City owner Assem Allam. The motion tabled by council leader Stephen Parnaby won cross-party support at the meeting in County Hall in Beverley. Cllr Parnaby insisted the motion was simply designed to praise Mr Allam for his efforts in saving the club from potential administration and transforming its fortunes on and off the pitch over the last few years. You could argue it’s not even about football," he added. "It recognises the profile he has given to Hull and the East Riding.” He denied the motion had anything to do with Dr Allam’s bid to change the club’s name to Hull Tigers and said speculation about its timing was “nonsense.” However, the wording of the motion left some wondering what the council’s new commitment to giving “every backing” to Dr Allam actually means. Cllr Parnaby did not elaborate on that point and instead delivered a lengthy personal tribute to the City owner and chairman, describing him as a philanthropist with a genuine desire to leave a legacy for the area as a way of thanking local people for welcoming him when he fled from Egypt as a young man. He said Dr Allam should be held in the same high esteem as Harold Needler, the late long-serving City chairman who built Boothferry Park and steered the club to success during the 1960s. Cllr Parnaby said: “He should be the most popular man in Hull but he’s not and that’s a great shame.” He also called on other businesses and organisations to publicly support Dr Allam. “I dread the day he withdraws from the club or no longer backs it,” he said. City fans watching from the public gallery were unimpressed. Rob Hamer said: “It was a complete waste of time. There was no explanation of what the council giving Mr Allam ‘every backing’ actually means.” Roger Saunders said: “He is a very nice man until you fall out with him. The real issue is that city councillors have made it clear they are more than willing to talk to him about the KC Stadium but he has thrown his dummy out and doesn’t want to speak to them.” • The full motion read: “Given that 50 per cent of season ticket holders of Hull City AFC are residents of the East Riding, this council gives every backing to its owner and chairman Dr Assem Allam in his endeavours to move the club to a higher level and recognises without the investment, the city and the East Riding would not have had the same profile nationally or globally.” http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/East...tory-23064088-detail/story.html#ixzz3FdkQ6l9P Top fans those two, Parnaby should table a motion to recognise their outstanding support.
