ITV wont get into any trouble. There is no access rights. Geoff Dunford approached BBC via twitter and they said they dont have the rights to air the goals. So Geoff went to the Football Conference via twitter and asked about this and they responded along the lines that no permission is needed at all for the news to shows the goals unless its from a game that was live on BT Sports. Then need to get permission from them to show it. Geoff went back to the BBC about this but nothing still be done. BBC are actually refusing to show any highlights by choice not because of access rights issues.

ITV coverage of the incident though wasnt great. They kept saying minority of fans. No it was just 1 or 2. They made it sound like it was a section of fans. Nothing either was mentioned about the steward. BBC though had an interview with the keeper who was very upset about the steward and said he threatened to walk off the pitch. They also said 1 individual and made it sound like a lot of us. BBC showed a better coverage of the racism but ITV showed the goal. Between them both, we got the details and the goal.

Anyone who knows the Neanderthal needs to name and shame the idiot. Covering for the fool is justifying his actions. Such a shame, the gas were just turning their bad luck round and then some complete tool could put us back in the dumps.

I'm guessing the club have no evidence/names to question/arrest this guy as it's all died down with no words coming from the club.

I'm guessing the only evidence we can pin on him is a camera mug shot and witnesses reporting him.

Plenty of keyboard warriors on facebook said they heard him shout it, why didn't they use there fancy iphones to record him to report him? or at least say something.

what else can the club say? they said everything that needs to be said. they are investigating it and helping the police. if they find who the person was then they will give them a life ban. they have asked if anyone knows any info to come forward. what else can they say?

Hopefully the racist will be identified and be banned. I have not heard anything racist for many years. I wonder if it was actually a racist comment or maybe he misheard something. A bit like "you for coffee?"... Don't know what comment might have been misheard, but it is possible.

Not sure i understand the way some are turning their frustrations on Jason Brown. What has he done wrong?

He was racially abused (in his opinion)
He followed protocol and stopped play and spoke to the referee.
He tweeted his thoughts raising awareness of racism at football still existing. He also tweeted that he appreciated the support shown to him by Bristol Rovers supporters.
Some would agree he made a stand and have applauded his actions.

The issues raised are: Possible racist abuse, failure of referee to act correctly, failure of steward to implement action.
The positives are: The player stood up and reported it, the club have acted promptly, Rovers fan's in general have condemned any racist abuse if it indeed took place.

Now, what do we actually know or what has been quoted.
Well a few have reacted with "we don't know what was shouted", i can understand that.

It's been confirmed the abuse lasted many minutes this is acknowledged by Rovers fans nearby and the player. BRFC themselves have said "The club have accepted the player was racially abused"

If we search the many forums, social media etc i can only find 2 witness reports of what was shouted: " You F...ing Malteser" was widely quoted and i have been told (don't use Facebook) that in the BRFC Appreciation page one Rovers fan states " I was near him and all I heard him say was chocolate brownie and few other things".

So going on those comments from our own fan's i would say (in my opinion) that's unacceptable. I'm fully aware not everyone will agree.

It's enough for me to realise we need to improve our behaviour AS A CLUB, we have been in the news far too much lately and whether we like it or agree with it we don't come across as a family club recently. Of course 99.9% of us are well behaved and we should be proud of that. But media and news stories are widely publicised and we need to raise our efforts as a club and fans. Watching/attending football matches is a family activity now and we want everyone regardless of race, creed or religion to be welcome and feel comfortable in their surroundings, and that goes for male, female, boy or girl.

I mean no offence to anyone who has differing views. Let's just hope the outcome from all this is the right one, whatever it may be. UTG

    Surely the procedure in this instance should have been something like as follows;

The steward should have kept the offender within his view. called into his seniors to report the incident and await support from his colleagues.
The offender should have been taken into the custody of the stewards, identity confirmed, witnesses approached, then handed over to the police so the pratt could have been dealt with accordingly.
I don't expect stewards to dive into the crowd without proper support and procedure, but the club needs to sort out procedures to deal with these unacceptable incidents by individuals before we are saddled with the punishment which will be obliged to receive.
This idiot should have been dealt with prior to the goalkeeper's need to complain to the ref!!
