Former Arsenal player Brian McDermott has been given a 3 year contract to work with chief scout Steve Rowley in recruitment. Do people thing that this will change the way that we approach transfers ? Wenger has always had a huge influence in this area and has pretty much taken complete control when it comes to signing players. It's interesting that McDermott's contract is the same length as Wenger's, it may mean that he is going to relinquish some control over it all before a new manager comes in at the end of these three years ? Or will it be more of the same ? http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-reading-fc-boss-brian-7887748
That's an impressive signing I've got to say, though I'm not sure how many contacts he's got outside of the UK, he's still a big name for a scout - considering he's been managing Championship sides!
He was chief scout at Reading for a few years too. I think it's good to bring an old Arsenal man back in and he has a decent track record in scouting and recruitment. Not entirely sure what he'll bring to Arsenal, but it suggests that we're looking at doing things differently.
Yep, he can do a job as proved at Reading, but unsure about what sort of impact he will make at Arsenal to be honest.
I wouldn't read too much into the appointment, Arsenal generally look to provide ex players opportunities to work within the club after their playing days, I don't see it as a complete change of approach....
