When I first started on 606, an ex player saying "I'm at a big club now" would have meant the ritual burning of talismans, effigies and the construction of wickermen <laugh>

Usually this sort of stuff isn't worth reading, there's an obvious agenda, but it's nice to see someone prepared to put the blame on the players. The big ones cared today, and got us the points. Half of this lot seem to be taking advantage of the situation to put in half-asked, ****ty performances.

When Alan gets sacked, we'll have some good times to reminisce over. Sure, we've had **** too, but he should go with a "thanks for trying your best", in my book.

I agree, against Swansea it was a handful of players trying to do the work of 11 men, but the malaise is deeper than just that... As a team we look clueless and totally bereft of any plan/planning or organization. And that's down to the the management and coaching staff. (look at what Pulis achieved with a shambolic relatively low quality Palace squad last year. I am not suggesting Pulis as a solution, god forbid, just as an illustration of what the 'basics' can achieve)

That all said.. I am still smitten with Cab's and everything he has said after leaving makes me a bit more smit. Seems a classy bloke as well as a very classy football player

Agree with this too. Pardew and the management team have done a poor job of the transition from Cabaye leaving. Its all very well using as an excuse the Cabaye leaving for the 4 months after he left to the end of the season. Come the summer though you have to have a plan, regardless of what players you are given by the transfer team. If I look at our squad, it looks blatantly 442 to me. We have no ball player in the middle which means we have to use the wings and get the ball forward quickly. Away from home we look completely a 442 counter attack side.

We seem to have decided rather feebly "Oh the fans don't want 442, they got on my back, so we'll play this way and this is the way most in the PL play" regardless of personnel. We have breakers, box to boxers and sideways guys in the middle of the park. The best duo for me is Anita and Tiote which frees you up to play wingers. Unless of course Sissoko decides to get his finger out, then I'd put him in with Tiote. At the moment though Sissoko is best out wide as he refuses to work. If we are looking for Anita, Sissoko, Tiote or Colback to become some creative force, then to be honest, I think our coaching team is ******ed. Yes we should have went and got a Grenier or Will Hughes to fill the void, but we didn't so you move on.

Its not exciting or what most fans seem to want, but at some stage you have to be functional. I like the idea of 433 or 4141 too but we haven't got the personnel. Its sad really, we should have signed two more players as a minimum. We needed that creative force in midfield and that solid defender. I really think a combo of say Shawcross and Hughes would have given us so many options. As it is though we have what we have and we need to cut our cloth accordingly.

Never been a fan of Shawcross (the octupus as he seems to have 8 arms) but totally agree with your sentiment, it was blindingly obvious we needed a ball playing midfielder and CB this summer (looks wistfully towards Grenier)

Anitia /Tiote is a good combo, and I prefer Anita in there over Sissoko he seems to have a little more ..vision and creativity (cabs lite) to both Sissoko and Tiote. (He doesnt seem to get a fair crack of the whip with Pardew it seems..always dropped when playing ok/ an easy to sub off/ not one of Pard's..chosen ones ..maybe?)

Sissoko on the wing..does help pin back the oppo's FBs to a degree with his head down 'CHARGE ..till I lose the ball' type runs (and Janmaat needs the help. This is exactly what happened to Debush at the start..left isolated against oppo's FB AND wide MF ...and hence making rash challenges/hung out to dry) but again he does have to start ...working.

In a flash! And he's frustrated with being on the bench at PSG and 'missing' England! See SkySports.com.

A fascinating aside, but in the cold light of day these ex-players are exactly that.

They are not going to help Newcastle United get out of the relegation zone with lip service and pointless guff.
We know we're in a pile of s**tty trouble just now but quite how more feverish finger-pointing is going to help I don't know.

    Passes the time I suppose.

I get that everyone is feeling low just now but all this well-wishing for ex-players has begun to irritate slightly.

Yohan Cabaye has gone to sit on the PSG bench for a stink load of cash - fair play to him - but maybe if he concentrated more on getting on the pitch in his beloved France, he wouldn't be so available to look-back at his predictable exit.

I'd have him back in an instant. True enough joker, as you though just passes the time and I don't mind ex players speaking well of the club. The real issue is not even him going, that sadly is entirely predictable due to the power of the European heavyweights. However just like Demba Ba before him, we have not replaced him.

If he was playing constantly I very much doubt he would have time to even give a **** about our plight. He left us to a career sitting on the bench. I couldn't give a **** about his opinions personally.
