    Deal.

    http://www.squawka.com/news/reports...senal-and-man-utd-target-cheick-tiote/190387?

Liverpool are set to make a £15.5 million offer for Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote in the January transfer window, reports the Daily Express.

The 28-year-old has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, but Liverpool view him as the ideal man to screen their defence.

The Reds have made a slow start to the new season, and Brendan Rodgers feels the combative midfielder’s arrival would allow them to deploy club captain Steven Gerrard further up the pitch, where is lack of mobility would not be as exposed.

Arsenal are believed to be particularly keen on Tiote, and Arsene Wenger reportedly plans to match any offer made for the Ivory Coast international. Tiote has revealed Arsenal made an approach for him in the summer, and he has recently said that he wants to leave St. James’ Park to seek a new challenge.

Reported Manchester United & Arsenal target Cheick Tiote wants to leave Newcastle

Tiote joined Newcastle in 2010 from FC Twente for £3.5 million, and he has made over 120 appearances for the club.

I suggested on their board that he would be a good fit for them. They really lack in the DM department, Gerrard either needs someone beside him, or he needs replacing. Either way, their present situation has Jordan Henderson operating too defensively at the cost of his best attributes.

Tiote would do a good job for Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool, hope he goes there soon. Good luck to him I say <ok>

Really? He's a good DM, but he's **** at ball playing, which is a massive part of their game. Everyone in that team needs to be good on the ball, which Tiote isn't. He's average at dribbling, and his passing is often woeful.

I'd take 15.5m but it's only worth it if we find a replacement, and I'll be massively pissed if Colback is his replacement. Colback is good and with potential, but he's no Tiote.

Tiote's not bad on the ball. what he isn't is Luca Modric, which is what he has to try to be in this team of s**t. He should be getting the ball and playing it simply, which he does extremely effectively when there's an... I don't know... CABAYE type player next to him... Jesus christ every time I think about Mike Ashley I wanna punch him in his fat face...

He is a fighter and we need fighters, yes his touch and passing erattic at times but I know who I would like beside me in the trenches!
Keep him until the summer then sell with our blessing.

I'd rather sell him to The Devil's own personal 11 than those scouse ****s. Sell him to Arsenal, sell him to the Mancs or sell him abroad (I think for the best) but not to them.

This. I'd much rather we sold any of our players abroad for less than we'd get selling them to a Premier League club.

Id sell for the money. Hes a great player but replaceable. For £15 i wouldnt think twice.

If hes 28 aswell the value will only go down soon

If we sell him we will need to make some pretty astonishing signings in Jan to make up for it. And the people joining us would have to have the same type of attitude as Remy joining QPR when it was apparent to everyone they were going down; i.e. joining for the money. Only difference is we won't pay 100 grand a week.

I agree with not selling him to our rivals, that said I can't see Ponteland United under 15's stumping up £15m

Wouldn't want to see him go to Liverpool, but equally wouldn't be surprised to see them make an offer Mike accepts. We ALWAYS sell a key player in January under Ashley. Seems to be a rule of his.

By the way, what has happened to Bigi? He was (kind of) being lined up as a future Tiote replacement about 2 years ago. Not even on the bench now.

The price should be double for the dippers. I'm surprised they want to come anywhere near us with a chequebook after the Andy Carroll shenanigans !

It would be a monsterous blow if we sold him. He is head and shoulders above every one of our players. Yes he had a really suspect spell not so long ago but he has been back to his best for a while. If the rest of the team could function and put his effort in, we'd be a lot better off. Pardew gets hammered for asking players to work hard, saying he stunts their creativity and a load of other bollocks. Its hard work that allows creativity to flourish in the PL. Tiote, Cisse, Obertan and Sammy seemed the only ones who understood this at the weekend!

If we lost Tiote I think relegation would be nailed on.

I do however think we'd take 15.5m at 28. Just the way we operate.
