Luck, someone's is going to run out when they turn up at CR with the bus parked up. If teams come here every week with the same plan, if we score first then they are pretty screwed as they actually need to attack and leave they're 6 yard line.
Says who??? Why is that "confined to history" and why are you so pleased about it???? Shouldn't we be aiming to score as many goals and win as many points as we can? Nobody has ever said that we need to hit those standards, and nobody has said that we are going to, but why on earth should we be setting our sights any lower than doing the best that we possibly can???
IMO, NA is right to target two points a game (92 for the season), but nothing wrong with raising your sights a bit to achieve your real target. We have Howson back now (he had a good first game), Josh Murphy's further development and Hooper and Odjidja-Ofoe yet to come. I'm hoping the latter will be a Damien Francis type ACM to break through packed defences. Still plenty of room for optimism.
It is a very even league with nothing to choose between the top 8 (well 2 points!) and so one can view this maybe as mediocre quality or highly competitive and both may be right in their own way. Regarding luck, I belive that last year we had very little and this year we had the bit that we needed early on but in the last couple of games we have had none whatsoever and the results have shown this in stark fashion. The ref has also cost us and we could / should have had a penalty in both games and in tight results that would have made 4 points difference and given the table a very different look.
We comprehensively outplayed both Charlton and Rotherham and on nine occasions out of ten would have taken maximum points and scored half a dozen more goals.
Totally agree, that's why I'm not entirely convinced by all this clamour to totally scrap the formation we've used in these past few games as we've clearly been dominating possession and creating the chances. We just need less profligacy in front of goal and we'd have daylight between us and the rest by now.
Guru, if you read my paragraph as a whole you will see that there was no need for your comment at all. I had acknowledged that we had some luck early on and if you wish to split hairs then yes our goal against you would have been a a case in point. That said, you are not going to say that we didn't deserve it are you?
It is swings and roundabouts of course and yes it does sound a bit tame blaming the ref, but in context again of my whole piece, I thought that there was balance and the comment in relation to those last two games was reasonable. As ever, it is all about opinions JWM!
no not at all, on the balance you did deserve the win. but at the end of the day you have to put the ball in the net to score. no prizes for chances missed.
I fully believe luck evens itself over time, that's from having played the game for many years and supporting. you could drive yourselves insane by saying "oh we would be 4 points better off here" just enjoy the ride and hold on tight!
While agree with you, it really does depend what you mean by "evens itself over time". What time period? We definitely did not get an even amount of luck last season, so does it take longer than one season to even out? Then again, we didn't get an even amount of luck when we were promoted under Lambert, so does it take as much as four season to even out? Alternatively, can luck even out over 10 games? So I'm not sure saying it evens out over time is particularly meaningful. And you're right that it is better to enjoy the ride and not dwell over the odd bad result, but I think it is perfectly legitimate to discuss bad luck in a game and complain about poor ref decisions, etc. Bit of a ramble there, but I think a better way of putting it is that the points you end up with at the end of the season are what you deserve. Any rise or fall in luck during the season/over multiple seasons is simply a discussion point.
