There have been plenty of optimistic appeals but one or two... and that one in particular were a bit close
Galling to get only a point after that first half performance and some impressive defending in the face of relentless attacking. Having said that, I would have taken a point before the game, we don't often come away with anything at Forest. I thought we were set up far too negatively in the second half, and seemed to panic whenever we got the ball. As soon as the Forest crowd got involved, we changed completely. We couldn't maintain possession and, Murphy's goal aside, we didn't carve out any meaningful chances over the second half either. A point is probably a fair result.
Hold heads high fellas...and outstanding all round performance, great team effort...and we are up there! How exciting was that! 3 cheers for MM and all the lads!
Really disappointing end to a good match. We brought it all on ourselves by not retaining possession. Two really good goals cancelled out by poor defending and poor decisions that lead to the corners. Still, we're on an unbeaten run and gave one of our top six rivals a run for their money so a lot of positives to take from the game. Time wasting always seems to come back to bite you on the arse when the ref gives five minutes injury time and you concede in the 94th. Game should've been over already
Meh ..... watched the 90! First half we were superb. Williams if not for a bad touch would have put us 2-0. After 55, we looked tired. Forest started to get control of the game, didn't take long for an equaliser. At that point I certainly didn't see Murphy putting us 2-1 ahead.....! Sucker punch at the death, but we did switch Smith for McGoldrick and go very defensive last 15 so that's the risk sadly......!!!! Ah well, very good point all the same and we're certainly improving even the style of footy. Gutted Skuse gifted them that final corner though, should have gone for a throw in. Shame we didn't go joint top of the league, but we're unbeaten in seven after the derby defeat shambles and two points off top after 11 games. I said after all the whining of the first few games I would judge us after the six games in three weeks, so my verdict is as follows - I think we'll definitely come top 6 this season. We're very hard to beat, break down and get shots away at. We have a strong spine, and from what I can see very good spirit in the squad. We also have a little bit of class in Williams/Bishop and McGoldrick. Our workrate off the ball from the 10 outfield players is superb also. They work for each other. Just my thoughts, but I'm very pleased with the season so far. We're gonna be in the mixer for sure. COYB.
Good post Westy fair comments. What surprised us all was the shift that Sammon put in. Just the bloke and hard head we need for such games. Had to be Skuse who gave the 2nd a way...but in general we gotta all be happy...if a bit downhearted! On balance, Florist won 2nd half comfortably...we gave them too much space, and became too defensive final 20. Onwards & upwards...I would have taken top 6 end August!
Yep, not too much to be down about. We're looking a decent team for this league. If we make it to the prem I think we have the defence to deal with it, we would need to bulk up the midfield though for sure.
From what I could see on the stream I was asking myself questions about Gerks. If your gonna come for the corner you've got to collect or get the ball out. A 94th minute equaliser is gutting, maybe lost a bit of composure at the end. Shouldn't be disappointed with a point but somehow I do feel a little as we were so close. But our unbeaten run goes on,there will be positives to take from the game and could we say town might just be one of the players this season. Finally. Pleeeese.
Gerks did pull off a few excellent saves, so I’ll save my ire on that one for the outfielders not picking up the run and the manner that the corner was conceded. Not that I can comment from a position of total clarity – the resolution I was getting wasn’t brilliant! Thanks to San Diego for the link, by the way. I missed the first half completely, but the main problem with the second half was the continual and occasionally cretinous gifting of balls to the enemy. Who was it that passed the ball to the Forest player that set up the attack that led to the corner for the first goal (resolution so bad I couldn’t tell)? This giving away of easy passes is something we’ve improved upon massively on this season, though this second half shows we’re still a little way off. And the keeper is still apparently instructed to hoof balls all the way down the pitch which almost always gives possession back to the other lot, frequently resulting in an instant attack. These two things are the last things you need while defending a one goal lead away from ‘ome.
Another good weekend, I'm going to top it off now by going up to the Marine base at Miramar for the annual air show and the Blue Angels. Have a good night lads
We live up the road from Duxford these days which is one of yer actual Imperial War Museum sites that have three major airshows a year. It’s mainly ye olde WW2 and thereabouts stuff, though, while I daresay Miramar is fast jets. I have to go to the Royal International Air Tattoo near Swindon once a year for all that.
Bugger!!!! I was enjoying us and Watford being one-two! Bad luck on the late comeback lads but not a bad result!
